COLUMBIA, Mo. - Newly minted No. 2 Mizzou wrestling hit the road this weekend for their final MAC roadtrip of the 2014-15 season. The Tigers square up against Buffalo on Friday, Feb. 6, and follow with a visit to Eastern Michigan on Sunday, Feb. 8. Mizzou's perfect 6-0 record in MAC play puts them atop the current 2014-15 conference standings. Buffalo (0-5) and Eastern Michigan (0-3) are both in search of their first MAC win this season.
The Tigers' current 18-0 overall record is the best start to a season in program history. The previous 15-0 mark was held by the 1967-68 Tiger squad under Head Coach Hap Whitney. With a handful of duals remaining, the Tigers have a chance to make history yet again.
If Mizzou notches one more dual win this season, the Tigers will have surpassed the all-time program mark for most wins in a season (18). Three past Mizzou wrestling teams hold the current record of 18 victories. They were the 1967-68 squad (18-0-1 record), 2001-02 team (18-3) and the 2008-09 club (18-4).
Cox Continues To Add Onto His NCAA Leading Streak
Sophomore J'den Cox upped his season record to 24-0 after taking down Northern Iowa's Basil Minto last Saturday by a dominating 16-4 major decision. The victory also improved his NCAA leading winning streak to 44 consecutive matches.
Last Time Out For The Tigers
Mizzou last competed on Saturday, Jan. 31 against MAC foe Northern Iowa, and came away with a 33-6 triumph. A whopping six Mizzou grapplers earned bonus points over the visiting Panthers, as redshirt freshman Willie Miklus, redshirt senior Alan Waters, redshirt sophomore Lavion Mayes, redshirt senior Drake Houdashelt, redshirt senior Johnny Eblen and Cox all recorded big time wins for the Tigers.
