You know, that terrible Arkansas game aside, I'm starting to see some good signs. When we play hard and don't lose our focus we are at least competitive. We didn't exactly get manhandled by #19 S. Carolina on the road today and we beat an Auburn team by 15 who beat Kentucky by 5 today. I can live with losing if we play hard and show some progress. I will also note that progress, for young players especially, is not always a straight line proposition.

The upcoming Georgia game at home is not a bad measuring stick. They're going to get killed the two games after that so they need to come out strong to avoid being 1-6 in the SEC.

South Carolina is not a top 25 team though. Their non conference schedule was embarrassing.

Agree, but S C has some talent and they are Frank Martin tough.

Let's see them play a few actual road games first. That schedule was a joke. You can make a good argument that they still haven't played a single team that will make the NCAA tourney. Even their SEC schedule to date has been soft - they haven't played Kentucky, A&M, Florida, LSU, or Arkansas.

aTm might be the only sure fire bet to make the tourney out of that bunch . My Cats are struggling. Ugh. Would help if we any semblance of post play.

SEC is not all that good this year. Which should increase the expectations a bit in Columbia.

Kentucky will have a chance because they have a great PG. You have to have that to make a run.
I don't know how great he is, but he's good. But he's not also good enough to put the team on his back and carry them against good teams. And there's no low post presence. This team has its issues.

It probably should, but unless they just totally collapse...HCKA gets another year. And I really think he should. It's a process. Hell, Frank Martin, with all of his recruiting ties, took a few years to even get uSC to respectable. And that's about all they are at this point. Make no mistake, MU was an absolute mess. And he chose to do it his way. I still think he should get the opportunity. But a little improvement sure would go a long way to easing concerns.

Does anyone know if Mizzou players can leave and not sit out a year due to the sanctions against the team?

Was that for sanctions or the coach that recruited them leaving?
Generally it would be a case where the sanctions got a coach fired - things like Baylor under Dave Bliss. We're talking the sorts of stories that dominated headlines for days or weeks.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of a recent situation where the NCAA allowed immediate transfers of current players just because the coach quit.

Off subject for a minute but NM I read an article recently that said there are fewer freshman enrolling at Mizzou after what the school has gone through. You may say it has nothing to do with what happened but I'm bettin it is. I know some folks around here that have a daughter there and they're VERY happy she only has one semester left.

It's a one year blip, and the enrollment pattern of athletes is different than that of rank and file students

They were NOT talking about athletes, just enrollment. We'll have to wait and see if it continues. I hope not but like I said, the folks I know are glad their kid is about to get out of there.

I couldn't tell you the last time I heard it brought up in STL. It's over and gone.

It was applications and they turn down up to 10k a year

It might be over and done in STL, but not in my area. Lots of kids deciding to go elsewhere.
