How about the new point guard? Looks smooth and is pretty long. Should be able to get his shot off as he wants. Obviously a cupcake win.

Thoughts on Thursday's matchup with Xavier? Lets get some point totals and differential...I'm just hoping it's competitive.

Frankie Hughes? He's a wing, not a point. But he looked really good. Hard not to get excited about a 50 pt win. I'd be worried about Xavier's size. First few possessions even A&M got multiple offensive rebounds each possession. Of course, when you start 1-17 from the floor there's ample opportunity for them. All that said...I'd say Xavier by 12-15. Hope I'm wrong though!

Have to be happy w/ the start. No one thinks anything will be easy against future opponents. I am hoping they will go 2-1 .. would love to steal one thursday but if not get the next 2 ... Team looks way more competitive, deep and athletic.

what was the difference between this and the game against the mules? just spread playing time? I saw attendance was under 4,000 as well.

I thought they looked good. Of course the competition wasn't great. But I thought Mizzou looked much improved from last year. Will that mean more wins this year? Probably not a lot. Need a big guy or two. But I'm thinking headed the right direction

Signs of life for the tigers at half...I see they are getting killed on the offensive glass though...but shot more free throws than Xav...so being aggressive. We will see how the second half goes. both teams pretty high turnovers at half and hovering at the 20% mark from 3pt.

Phillips pulled a Phil Pressey. Played great. Was a big reason they had the ball tied with 10 seconds left in OT and a great chance to win. Then he jacked a long 3 with 7 seconds on clock that was blocked. Then fouled with .3 on clock. X made 1 FT to win. Hopefully he's not like Pressey and learns from it. Pressey never really did.

But the Tigers looked pretty good. The newcomers are miles better than the guys who left. TP and Puryear looked really good as well. All may not be lost in Columbia after all.

I know it is probably a mistake to get to excited but it has been a long time
since I was nervous watching a mizzou game. They are light years better than last
year. I hope they can go 500 with everyone returning but woods and adding the 4
star guard from Texas the team could be very good next year.

Although I have to say, why are we fouling someone 25 feet from the basket with 1 second left?

Because Phillips made an absolute boneheaded play. Which probably was precipitated by trying to do too much after making an extremely boneheaded play on offense seconds before that.

Totally a Flip moment for sure. Something tells me Phillips will learn, but time will tell. Certainly will have to fix the issues on the glass, or shoot really, really well to offset it. Hard to win when you can't get a defensive rebound. Can't get many stops that way.

Not the answer you're looking for today from Phillips. He's playing poorly and whining worse than Cow/Feej. He's got to stop that, soon.

I like getting to see three MU games in three days...but I'm not sure I can take another game of the Fonz and Ricardo Montalbán on the call.

Yeah...we suck again.
They were never going to be good this season. .500 would/should get HCKA a ton of COY awards. But if you watched, you should have seen bright spots from today. Got down big really, really quickly. Fought back and bounced between 5-9 most of the first half until the run by Davidson at the end of the half. Nikko looks like he might become a serviceable big this season, which would be huge. Phillips was awful today, and they'll struggle to win against anyone when he's that bad, much less a team as good as Davidson. Walton played better, as did most of the bench. Which was a huge issue yesterday. Problem is, starters pretty much stunk it up.

Getting to .500 your 3rd season at the helm should definitely get you coach of the year.

Nevermind the complete overhaul of the roster and climate change. But just go black and white because it fits your agenda. You were butt hurt they hired a "D-II coach", and continue to show it. I almost want him to succeed just so whiners like you actually have to enjoy the success of said D-II coach.

I had you pegged for a climate change denier.

By the way, the "complete overhaul" of the roster (and there can be no doubt, this is totally Kim's team now) has brought Mizzou...what, exactly? A .500 record at best this year? Probably more like 10 wins?

I don't think I've ever been "butt hurt" over anything. That phrase definitely bolsters your argument though.

If you deny that's the reason this hire was made, that's your choice. To deny there was a need is your choice as well. I'm not a "True Son" guy, in fact I hate that crap. But MU fans like you that don't want to give him a chance or deny the battle he fought from day one just to play to your agenda are tiring at best. Butt hurt describes it perfectly, I'm sure even an academic like yourself can understand that.

Again, me giving him "a chance" has nothing to do with Kim succeeding or not. "My agenda" has nothing to do with Kim succeeding or not.

I'm not an academic, but I do have a large enough vocabulary to make my point without injecting sophomoric phrases like "butt hurt."

Where did I point out his success was determined by your butt hurt POV? Nice passive aggressive move. Sometimes you just have to drop to the level of your audience.

Then why keep making the point that I'm not giving him a chance to succeed? It has no relevance to the point.

I don't think I'm being passive agressive. If you're resorting to phrases like "butt hurt," you either don't have enough vocabulary to make a good point or you don't have a good point to begin with.

My point is you're so close-minded because he was a D-II coach when they hired him. Your not giving him a chance is irrelevant to his success, or failure for that matter. If he weren't so lowly and unqualified because of his prior employment status, my guess is you'd be a little less tainted with your agenda.

Or I just like to point out that you're a butt hurt whiner. Sometimes a spade is a spade.

So, lets break down the rest of the season.... 2-2 record thus far.

Color Codes: (My opinion..obviously)
Green
: Should win
Orange: could win
Red: not likely to win

vs Northwestern State -assuming cupcake 3-2

vs North Carolina Central -thank goodness for cupcakes 4-2

vs Western Kentucky- Probably a decent game, but we are home... 5-2

vs Miami (Ohio)- Finish the homestand undefeated... 6-2

vs Arizona- Get blown out...but a fun game to host 6-3

vs Eastern Illinois - cupcake 7-3

vs Illinois- lets say we lose in a close game 7-4

vs Lipscomb 8-4

vs LSU- Not unbeatable, like all of the SEC (minus UK) loss...8-5

at Georgia- i'm assuming we lose all road SEC games (but for 1)...8-6

vs Auburn - Back to winning....9-6

at Arkansas - Road game...loss 9-7

at Alabama - Loss.... 9-8

vs Ole Miss- getting some national votes, but we win 10-8

at Mississippi State- loss in starkville, 10-9

vs South Carolina- 11-9 with the win

at Florida -Loss 11-10

vs Arkansas- avenge the road loss with a win 12-10

at Texas A&M - getting poll points right now, and away 12-11

vs Vanderbilt - we get em' 13-11

vs Alabama - lose to avery johnson's team, just because 13-12

at Tennessee- road loss 13-13

vs Kentucky- yerp..not close 13-14

at Ole Miss road loss 13-15

vs Texas A&M Big home win 14-15

at Auburn- win our one road game all year, finish 15-15

Optimistically, I think we can win 18 games this year. 1-we will lose some home games (maybe a lot), 2 we will win some road games, and the SEC is weak (thank goodness)

Games that can "flip"- We can beat Illinois.

I think as long as we show improvement down the stretch, I will be satisfied...They are young (and they will show it, as they already have) and the barnett kid will be a plus for them. I think they could make a little noise this year, getting ready to be top tier in the conference next year.We NEED A BIG MAN BAD!

Someone disagree with me and make some picks.

EaglesBall. I think you hit it out of the ball park!!!! I'm pulling for Anderson if for nothing else just to spite some of these people.

You don't know me: I think you have it laid out pretty well. I'm hoping for better, but I'm with you that I think 500 record is about the level of growth.

But I see vast improvement from last 2 years. Give him a couple more years I see us as competitive. But need some big guys!!!

I think 15 wins might be a stretch. Unless Barnett is the absolute best player. If he's the leading scorer, and Nikko can provide quality post play come SEC play...15 might not be out of reach. 18 and I might sell all my UK gear and become an MU honk...Ok, I won't do that, but I'd be floored. The biggest thing is to be competitive and retain players. He does that, the wins they get will be enough to get year four I think. And with this roster, year four will be where you see tourney berths and such. I think this roster will wind up being that good.
