Both Cullen VanLeer-Pacific and Ronnie Suggs-Washington are traveling with the Tiger team. Both VanLeer and Suggs had great careers in the above Franklin county high schools. Both VanLeer and Suggs have played minutes @ Missouri. I believe both would make good high school coaches and Cullen Van Leer has stated he wants to be a coach.

Cullen VanLeer has played for his Father @ Pacific who is a successful high school coach, Kim Anderson former Missouri coach ( Won a D-2 national championship ) and Martin and Porter Sr.

I can think of no new high school coach that would be more qualified to coach then Cullen VanLeer. Cullen can use the best traits of all the above to make his place in coaching. I hope he takes my advice and only consider positions he has a chance to win other wise the best instruction a coach can give most likely will not be carried out.

Sometimes when you’re starting out, you don’t have the chance to pick and choose exactly where you’d like to coach. In fact, more times than not, you don’t get that top-notch job right out of school.

If I could have a do over in my coaching line I would have been a lot more selective about where I went to coach. Some places are death traps for coaches and others are career enhancers. I chose a couple of the former.

metro- Cullen starts his student teaching in the fall. He will be a great teacher of the game and has learned even more on the sidelines this year recovering from his injury. Wherever he goes they will be lucky to have him.

Thumb, you hit a home run with your above post. Cullen wants to coach, He would do fine by excepting a " Graduation Asst " position @ a known basketball university. These top coaches Asst. usually have offers as head coaches. As a rule, the graduate Asst. gets a quick opportunity to be hired as a asst. coach in that University if the head coach likes you.

I worked the Arkansas summer basketball camps @ Arkansas with Eddie Sutton as head coach back in 1980. This above opportunity was offered to me and one of the asst was leaving the next year. I already had my masters @ that time so I turned this opportunity down. I have often wonders how my life would have changed if I would have taken the opportunity.

Bo Cleland( sp) was the basketball coach @ Pacific in the 70th. Bob took the ' grad asst. " under Sutton @ Arkansas. Bob was an asst coach @ Arkansas the next year. Bob Cleland ( sp ) was the first D-1 head coach basketball to be named @ Missouri State in the eighties. Bob did not last long @ Missouri State and I would like to see and talk with him again.

Thumb, can you look up what year Bob was the head coach @ Pacific high school and the spelling of his last name.

msubears, if you read this, can you look up when Bob was hired as Missouri State's first D-1 basketball coach and report.

My other advice too Cullen is don't take a basketball position in a non-traditional high school and think your going to turn things around. Traditional schools are the only way to go for long time success. Short time success is possible in a non-traditional high school but that could be short lived.

Ronnie Suggs receives a basketball scholarship for his hard work and dedication for the Missouri basketball program. Ronnie is a " Walk On " @ Missouri. Suggs and VanLeer are former Franklin County basketball players @ Washington and Pacific high school. It appears Missouri coaches Martin and Porter Sr. have big plans for the senior to be next season.

Glad to see Ronnie get the scholarship. He deserved it with how much he has been playing.

However, I’m not sure that’s going to help us win in the SEC next year. Need some help. Not sure the current signees will be enough
