Missouri Teachers

Anyone who fights making teachers more secure or happy in their jobs doesn’t understand much about life in general.

Missouri teachers 100% need more pay. They are outrageously underpaid. Having a mother who has been a teacher for 25+ years and now a wife on her 5th year of teaching, it’s an embarrassment to the education world.

The amount of hours they put in outside of school creating lesson plans, grading papers, etc far outweighs what their salary dictates. Especially newer teachers. For the teachers that go above and beyond for their students (which are few and far between now), their salary comes out to be anywhere between $7-$10 an hour.

They are educating the future generation, not someone who forgets to put a straw in your fast food bag.

I have worked in public schools for 10 years (eight in a district that is pretty easy to deal with in terms of the clientele). I think some teachers outwork their pay. Some do not. I hate the idea of just cranking up taxes to pay for the raises. I think some good would come of it, maybe luring some better teachers into the field but I would prefer the budget not increase on our behalf.

I am a little like Ron Swanson on this as he worked for the Pawnee Municipal Government but hated government overreach (so most things government) altogether. I dislike the direction of public schools and the lack of accountability within them. I would rather them be privatized but I honestly can't see a way around the funding issue (some say vouchers, but Jack and Jill don't always cost the same to educate)....

Having been in our schools, the biggest travesty is how much paraprofessionals are being paid. Teachers do need paid more as well, but Para's are making a ridiculously low wage serving the most difficult clientele in the school building. I have seen many para's who are worth more than 2 certified teachers combined!

Why is it that we thank the public servants but expect them to live on way below average salaries. Is the value of what they are doing worth less than the businessman? I think not.

However, I lean hard toward educating my children at home or private school as the public school system is a broken system.

It is symptomatic of socialism's ability to allocate funds well and the government's only legally allowed viewpoint of secular humanism and political correctness.

You mean teachers don't just put in 7 or 8 hours day, get 3 months off a year and have lots of time off for holidays? I'm shocked! Many on here think they get paid way too much now for the "time they put in."
