MSSU led 72-61 WITH the ball with 1:50 to go in the regional final and lost. For some reason they took an immediate shot. The part that is even worse is their point guard got the offensive rebound and took another immediate shot. Of course Duluth gets the rebound and hits an immediate 3 and it snowballs.

This description isn't quite right, but it certainly did snowball. They had an inbounds pass where the center broke open heading for the basket, but she bobbled the ball at the basket. The point guard came breaking towards the basket, the center passed it to her, and the point guard missed the point blank shot. Duluth got the rebound, and hit an immediate three and it did snowball. Duluth hit 3 more three pointers, got a steal and put back, forced an immediate jump ball at one point with the possession arrow, got an offensive rebound and putback, and MSSU missed 2 out of their 6 free throws. MSSU still had a shot to win, but it wouldn't fall. Duluth's press bothered MSSU as did the raucous crowd. Duluth's senior-laden team really pulled it out.

A very heart-breaking loss for MOSO, but they had a great year going two games farther than they did last year. They lose two key pieces, but have their HM All-American back. I am so proud of this team, and hope they use this heartbreak to fuel an even longer run next year!

Lacy Stokes in the portal. Interesting to see where she goes.

Read the same report … curious to see where she goes. Obviously she could be testing the waters to see what offers she receives and could end up back at MSSU.
However, she might receive some Division I interest and see what options are available for her.
Now, if she happens to transfer up the road to Pitt State … goodness that could pour all kinds of fuel on the rivalry.

Might as well add this question to spark a discussion since this is a Missouri prep message board … how long until state activity associations introduce the transfer portal at the high school level?

I mean, student-athletes do it all the time. At some point, associations are either going to have to adapt and embrace or lose control (i.e, NCAA) all together. Might as well get ahead of it.

I assume she is going to try and transfer to a D1 school. Although as of now Pitt St will be a lot better than Southern next year.

MSHSAA would never admit kids transfer for athletic reasons.

Would not surprise me to see Eagan take her to Lindenwood.

I had told someone the same thing yesterday, with both announcements happening the same day. Would also be close enough for her family to attend several games.

Anyone that’s seen Stokes play in the last few years knows her skills are both needed, and can absolutely fit in at Mizzou, as well as the SEC.

yeah I am not sure on that one. Mizzou and the SEC is a big step up from where she has been playing. Great player, but not sure she is ready for that level.

Thinking MSU is a lot more likely than the SEC, but don't really question if she would be able to compete in The Valley. The Lindenwood option would be a real possibility I would think. But I am completely guessing.

That girl has been proving every comment like this wrong for years now. I’m happy she’s getting the chance to continue that opportunity…
What? She was a D2 prospect from the beginning. She didn’t prove anything wrong yet. Show me the 5’3” players that can’t shoot that had an impact after moving up. I’ll wait.

She's 5'5 and faster/quicker than most D1 players. She's never been known for her shot, that's true, but she is known for making her teams better, and in the end, that's what matters

I don't know - and probably don't want to know - the motivation behind denigrating Stokes or other players on here, other than some kind of personal/professional vendetta.

I hope she does well at MSU, looking forward to seeing her play.

88 steals and more than a 3 to 1 Assist to TO ratio. Throw in the 17PPG Girl can play. Makes everyone around her better

I do think the size issue is a concern but she will get the chance to prove that wrong.

I looked at some of the top D1 scoring and assists leaders and many of them are in the 5'4-5'6 range.

Not saying Stokes will make those leaderboards, but I am saying that there are girls her size making big impacts in D1

If she starts, I think - at the very least - she scores 10-12 ppg, and gets 2 to 5 each of rebounds, dimes and steals per game

She can work on her shot, and I'm sure she will. Shooting is one of the easier things to improve upon in basketball.

She already has the athletic ability and motor and that's a huge head start for any athlete.

I would say she has proved a lot of people wrong. She is more than a D2 prospect. She has proven herself as one of the best D2 players in the country. Two time Honorable Mention All American. 2 time All Central Region (1st or 2nd team). 2-time All MIAA 1st team and Defensive Team. MIAA player of the year and Freshman of the year. She has lots of accomplishments in just two years.

She also fared pretty well in two exhibitions vs. D1 teams averaging 16 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. I think she will definitely make it in D1. She won't be the huge star like she was in D2, but she will fit in at D1.
