ABOUT THE MISSOURI MAGIC EXPOSURE CAMP: The Missouri Magic Exposure Camp is designed to be an intensive 27-hour event of skill & drill in the basketball basics and specifics deemed necessary to make the jump to the next level of basketball. Directed by Magic Basketball President Marty Dello and Missouri Magic Director Mark McLaughlin, the camp is focused on these items:
? Diagnose and identify the player’s current level of proficiency in the skills necessary to excel at his level --- 6th grade, or 12th grade, with an eye on adding proficiencies that will separate the player from the pack at his level, and enable him to move to the next level --- junior high, varsity, or the college game. Part of adding proficiencies is to identify deficiencies and prescribe the changes, drills and workouts necessary for each player to move from basic, to proficient, to advanced at his grade level.
? Address skill levels through classroom instruction (The DeVenzio Model of positional instruction) and critique the player through video breakdown of his play in designed evaluation games and station drill work. A player can only “fix” 25% of what you tell him he needs to fix. If he can see it, the growth and improvement can take his “learning curve” forward to 50 or 60% --- thus, quicker improvement.
? Each age group --- 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th will admit only the first 20-players per age group to ensure age-appropriate and intensive individual attention.
? We will know your son by name when he arrives and know him by name and sight for the rest of his school career. The personal relationship we will build in this short time with your son will be a highlight of his experience and provide him a contact and reference point to talk to over the summer, and throughout his high school career.
? We will make this experience a “hard work/good habit” experience without “cutesy” games and contests --- This will not be just another “tee-shirt camp”.
? The evaluation your son will leave with will be an anecdotal reference that marks his progress. With other events from exposure showcases, to travel team possibilities, to training opportunities, the written evaluation forms the “baseline” of his experience with us. (See example attached).
