Long time lurker, needed to make an account to post. I was wondering when this was going to hit MoSports, so I'll start. Has anyone heard that Ash Grove, Pleasant Hope, and Marionville left the Mid-Lakes and now it's all broke apart?? Fill the rest of Missouri in!

I have heard wind of Sherwood, Butler, El Dorado Springs of hooking up with some schools down south to form a new conference. I don't know if any of those schools you listed are involved.

Forsyth is joining the Mid-Lakes for football only, Pleasant Hope is leaving for the SRVC and Clever is joining the Mid-Lakes when they start football. Geographically Stockton and Skyline make perfect sense for the new Ozark Highlands Conference though. Be interesting if Spokane and Sparta add football. Add those 2 to the Mid-Lakes, let Stockton and Skyline go to the Ozark Highlands.

Pleasant Hope is out at the end of this year. Stockton, Marionville, Ash Grove are all out at the end of the next cycle.

Nothing is final yet, but talks are all to the SRVC. But I would assume Stockton will look into joining the new conference with El Do, Warsaw, etc after really thinking about the logistics of joining the SRVC

Is the SRVC planning on splitting in divisions for other sports besides football, or have they got that far yet?

Wouldn't football be the only sport that would have to split into divisions if the SRVC suddenly swelled to 14 or so members?

I don't see this breakup happening. C2 Stockton would play class 1 schools exclusively, and it's not going to help them travel-wise. Marionville might like a slightly smaller travel budget in the Spring Valley, but AG would greatly increase theirs. P Hope just wants to save their football program so they go to the SRVC, but Clever takes their place in the Mid-Lakes in a few years.

Nothing to see here.

Ash Grove is about 20 miles from Miller and Greenfield. Their travel might be less but pretty similar to now.

It's probably not so much about travel for conference games as it is finding out of conference games to fill the holes in the schedule. Go to 10 conference members and you have zero OOC games to fill .

Unless a team (or two) goes to 8 man.

I didn't realize Ash Grove was that close. Still think they stay put. MLC gains Clever and maybe Forsyth? SRVC gets Pleasant Hope and Greenfield gets back to 11 man. Both conferences look to be in good shape.

I think you are just seeing the conferences adjusting to the current playoff scheduling system. In the old system 8 team conferences were about the limit due to the 4 team district setup with those 3 games at the end. Now with 9 games to schedule I expect to see more 10 team conferences form.

Very few teams are in a conference that they don't have 3 other teams their same class. The playoff system isn't a factor
It is a lot about the 8-man possibilities and scheduling. For some, the added strength of schedule (AG and Marionville) is attractive.

Previous system you never could guarantee where the state would put teams come districts. That's why 8 team conferences were the normal high amount. With the new playoff system with 9 games to schedule, the rise of the bigger conferences is starting to come more and more. Just an observation that I am seeing.

The Mid-lakes and the SRVC will both look a little different next year. Stockton, Pleasant Hope, Ash Grove, Marionville, Miller, Diamond, Pierce City, Sarcoxie, and Skyline (football only) will begin playing in the Osage conference in 2018. Clever will join in 2020 to give them 10 teams.

It’s not true. He is just making it up. Clever would not join that made up conference anyway. They are 3A in most sports.

The superintendents will be meeting this Wednesday in Carthage to finalize it. I think the Osage conference is a good move.

There is a story here. Not sure who will be involved but good chance some things could change as we know it...just wait and see. Sounds like Jasper, Liberal and Lockwood and some other SRVC schools might not be a part of the plan. If that's the case what's future look like for them?

I have had coaches and players who I won't mention have their say of how they could compete. I think the point was made that the 6th place team in the SCA could compete with the champion of the SRVC. And I promise you year in and year out this will continue. The srvc champion would get 4-5 losses in most years in the SCA. Liberty, Ava. Mt Grove, Thayer, and Salem, (And dont get me started on Salem,_)

Where for art thou WEMO?

As is Stockton and Diamond. Sarcoxie has been class 3 in the past. Its really no different than the MLC in terms of mix of class 2-3 schools.
