Mexico Bulldogs vs Marshall Birds(owls)

Here are the numbers:
Mexico 2-0 74 points scored, 6 points allowed
Won week 1 against North Callaway 39-9
Won eek 1 against California 35-0
Marsall 0-2 27 points scored, 82 points allowed
Lost week 1 to Chillicothe 13-41
Lost week 2 to Smith Cotton 14-41

I will say that Marshall has played tougher opponents but was not all that competitive in those games. Mexico beat North Callaway, which aint no South Callaway and a down California team. I sill take Mexico in this game based on that they did not play down to their competition, while Marshall did not play up.

I'm just waiting for the Mexico/Hannibal match-up. I don't think Mexico is getting the credit they deserve, though, that have played slack competition the first two games. Last year Mexico lost to Hannibal in the regular season and beat them in districts. It'll be nice to see how it plays out this year.

Shoot90draw you sure are good with those numbers! Some people really thought this would be the birds year! They have had that youth program going for some time now with quality coaches I might add and you would think that it would be paying dividends in wins by now! The current head coach has been with his players since 8th grade which happens to be the same year the birds went 0pher! It just doesn't make sense! Probably everyone is not on the same page which is the case for the whole town of birdville... To many agendas and noonegoal. Just my dimes worth! "Go Birds"

Ya, that is a curious situation. Normally, when you have a group playing together for so long like that, they build a solid team. Did they lose some kids to moving, other sports, or lost interest?

Mexico 22 Marshall 0 at half

...scoreless midway through the 2nd quarter as Mexico had fumbled near the red zone, and Marshall had a drive stall at the 20 yd line and couldn't convert 4th & 11. Immediately after Marshall's unsuccessful 4th down, Mexico had an 80 yard TD called back for holding, but was still able to put together a scoring drive on a 66 yard pass on a 3rd and long. It was Mexico's first completed pass of the season. Another drive of 80 yards was capped by a 44 yard run, and a final drive of 5 yards (after an interception with less than a minute to go before half) has Mexico in the lead 22-0 at the half.

Mexico 36 Marshall 0 FINAL

Mexico improves to 3-0, and will travel to Hannibal next week for a big NCMC showdown.
Marshall falls to 0-3, and will square off against 0-3 Kirksville for Homecoming next week.
