Saw these rankings on Twitter. Thought this would elicit some good discussions as we get ready for high school football to start. For one, Webb City is ranked too high.

Kearney?
Smart to remove almost all the Johnson County schools. Mill Valley is the lone exception. Quite the program they've built on the western side of Johnson County.

Obligatory eye roll when I see so many Kansas teams in a list ranked in the top 10. Nope. Mill Valley should be at like #10 on this, and that is generous.

That Mill Valley program is extremely formidable. The offense is unstoppable. It wasn't all that many years ago they played at Staley.

They are the best program in KS without a doubt. Miege should never stick their chests out over winning 4A virtually every year.

The turbo loss to Smithville, never mind the overall record (which is beyond what I ever expected last year), is likely why.

It would seem that someone in that comment section is upset at Nixa's "biased referees".

How good was their jv last year ?
I could be mistaken but I thought JV won every game except Nixa, and FR was basically the same. On paper they looked good but I keep hearing the next several classes are very thin on talent. I don't know how much of that is real or how much of it is just a result of last years team being so senior heavy that we just haven't seen what any of these kids can do on the varsity stage.

I want to be optimistic and as of now I am not boarding the sinking ship narrative that some people are chained to, however I will say the things I am now hearing out of Carthage are very, very similar to what I was hearing from Carl Junction a few years ago - which did turn out to be pretty accurate.

Lees Summit North writeup. That guy is connected to a lot of D1 programs, which is why he gets all these transfers. I've wondered about the game coaching there. With that much talent you'd think they would've won the state title already.

Yes it does remind me of CJ. The cavalry is about 2 years away for CJ. Joplin is the next program to go through a talent desert in a few years.

But then you have Liberty North, matching them in D1 talent and then some.

2021, preseason.. most thought Carthage would come in 4th or 5th as I recall. Carl Juction gave them a good game and shut them out in the first half. People was already closing the Casket on Carthage.. then.. Webb City game,.... I'm not counting Carthage yet.

I've seen you bring this up about Joplin several times. How do you know if you don't mind me asking. Just wondering with a school that large.

There has been more than one season in the last several years where I thought they may lose 4 or 5 games and in a few cases they were a bit rough early on, but did often seem to pull out wins and by the end of the season playing pretty well.

But they had the two best wins of any team in Class 4 last year, with almost the entire O and D back. Well, except for the three D1 athletes.

Offense will be lethal. Even K's top opponents will have a very hard time dealing with all the skill position talent they bring back. Better be prepared to defend every square inch of the field! Defense and special teams are my concerns coming into 2023. Numbers are, agree, good overall but wonder if they've improved the pass D.

Three D linemen and three LBs return on to a D that shut down the passing game of Smithville in Game 1 and Fort Osage, as well as PC. Two of the front three are back and better, stronger, and bigger--so hopefully pressure on anyone that tries to pass. Lose a 10X all state track athlete (first team all state safety) in the backfield, but he is replaced by his faster brother, who is also all-state in track 2x already, and is now a junior. Overall, lining up three all-state athletes on that D, with a few surprises no one will see coming.

Just as a refresher:

PC Week 1 QB rating 76.27 18/31
Fort Week 2 QB rating 42.36 4/6
SV Week 3 QB rating 29.9 8/22 87 total yards.

Those were all senior QBs, Fort and SV with lots of experience. Bahaha

This is the Joplin 7th grade team from last year.
Just out of curiosity I opened it and clicked to a random point a little ways into the game.

CJ was kicking to Joplin, I assumed they just scored, it was 24-0 CJ. First play Joplin fumbles a handoff but manages to keep the ball with a 3 yard loss. Next play I don't even know what happened, QB in a mess, appeared to maybe attempt to pass to someone behind him but instead gets tackled and fumbles basically into their own end zone for another CJ score. That was all I needed to see, you've made your point.

Oh wow, never really paid attention to 7th grade football but this was pretty rough.
