Mertz’s injury occurred when a Pittsburg player intentionally ripped his leg

This excerpt is directly from the article.

'I was not there. I did not see it, or have I seen the video at this point.'

The writer from PrepsKC might want to do a little research before writing an article like this one.

I'm not saying it didn't happen, it very well might have, but it seems pretty unprofessional and irresponsible to incriminate a school, team and athlete for these actions before you see some evidence of it.

Just another example of lazy journalism in today's social media based society.

end rant.

Lazy journalism, he goes through the trouble of writing the article but couldn't motivate himself to find the video. Hint: its on Mertz's twitter feed.

probably spends most of his time going thru applications for "team mom of the week". (they really have that.) or cutting and pasting the weekly media rankings.

And what exactly is wrong with that? Asking for myself.

I probably don't have a problem with this 25 years ago.
Now? Yes. Seems inflammatory and irresponsible (I'll go with irresponsible instead of lazy) to not check all sources before printing rumor.
All that and -- yes. Hope it's not true!

".....Seems inflammatory and irresponsible (I'll go with irresponsible instead of lazy) to not check all sources before printing rumor...." HAVE you SEEN National new outlets, this is exact what they do so it must be professional and acceptable.

Doesn't look that dirty - if dirty at all, to me (assuming there aren't other angles, showing something different):

QB scrambled out of the pocket and struggled for extra yardage when the defender had him by one leg. Defender rolling up the leg isn't a great look, but you can't tell intent from that short clip. Mertz moving forward would have carried the lb in that direction anyway. A football play..Did Wisky promise Mertz that he wouldn't get hit in the b1G?

It is kansas...the qb should be wearing flags.

Looks like an extra roll and twist on the ankle while already down from that angle.

Yeah hard to tell from that angle but it does look like the defender rolls a bit to the ankle. also looks like the defender is pushing down on the leg/ankle. But really hard to tell I see that done alot does not make it right or wrong but it does happen.

That's football boys.

Mertz should stick his face in the QBs #s and tackle him like a man.
This is an example of ankle biting.

I have slowed it down and watched it numerous times. there is absolutely nothing dirty about that tackle. I am dumbfounded that Clisso would report that! I believe that Clisso owes whoever that kid is a HUGE public apology. That kind of crap can ruin a kids reputation and confidence.

I agree. How do you not find the video? If it was as bad as Dion Cissco describes it, wouldn't you want to see it? I think Mertz's dad called him and he became star-stuck. kind of a puss move on dion's part.

Like how none of his team mates come to his aid. Kansas football.

Well, Mertz is actually the qb (and a damn good one)...I agree though, the LB should have laid him out and there would be no whining. The LB's slow and that's why he ended up with the ankle-saving tackle. For the reporter's benefit, ripping his leg would have involved actually torquing it. The LB's dad/coach should be giving that "reporter" and "ass ripping".

It's a victimology article written by a victimologist.
At this very moment trauma counselors are being made available to discuss the pernicious violence of football. I'm sure Blue Valley SD school will announce this Friday as a national safety day in honor of their fallen quarterback.

oh. Well darn it, he's a little ankle biter!
The superintendents of both schools are checking to make sure all the coaches across Kansas are up to date on their CPR Certification. School Safety officers and athletic trainers are convening in Topeka to discuss ways to tackle without touching the quarterback. A new rule will be created involving the QB which eliminates flushed out of the pocket plays for its too dangerous to run between rushers beyond 6 yards. I'm sure diving at legs will become a 15 yard personal foul.
All videos instructing kids to hit giant rolling donut dummies will be removed and helmet stickers will be handed out to players encouraging them not to hit too hard.
