I was told by a retired teacher who has a relative that has been a state congressman and now has another job in Jeff City that the medicaid expansion will blow up the state's budget forever. I hadn't heard this before the vote this time but she says states will have to match the feds money dollar for dollar for this expansion and it would cost Missouri about $300 million a year. That money will have to come from some where and it will cause more cuts to education and many other programs in the state.

Hate to tell you this 3R, but your friend’s relative is full of $&!+.

Based on Washington University’s study, if Medicaid expansion had occurred in 2020 and added 315,000 people to the publicly funded medical insurance program, Missouri would have saved nearly $40 million.

Furthermore, Washington University’s analysis shows Missouri’s expected cost for Medicaid increasing nearly 20% to more than $4 billion per year by 2024 without expansion.

With expansion, the study suggests Missouri’s cost would decrease by 2.8% over the next four years with Medicaid expansion in place.

The Missouri Budget Project projects even higher savings for the state, estimating that Medicaid expansion could save Missouri $235 million a year.
I don't know anything about the state budget or how to figure out the numbers going forward. I do know the person I'm talking about was VERY high in our state legislature, went out on term limits and was appointed to high level state government position. I'll have to assume he knows what he's talking about.

Yeah that was well known before the vote.......this will be a huge issue. I suspect that they will have to redirect money from education etc. to cover the cost.

How often do the studies from Left wing Universities ever get it Right....they always underestimate the cost, don't ever have the correct statistical data to make a perfect analysis or the Bill doesn't even remotely reflect the actual law. This will not work out like the Socialist Comrades think. It never does....and I find that sad and glories.
