Media says high demand for testing

To be fair, one picture doesn’t tell this story. And people who aren’t feeling sick aren’t wanting to be tested and are in fact told to stay home.

I think a systematic approach to comprehensive testing is worthwhile. If we could get a 15 minute test going at factories, etc, that would be handy.

To be fair. No sheet Sherlock one picture doesn't portray the situation. The media is not portraying anything reasonable. This picture should be packed with anxious testers.

I think we are mostly on the same page with media hype. I’ve seen hospitals have closed because of lack of patients. I just didn’t care for this particular post. Seems like something Ducky would put out.

Which sounds condescending, but not meant to be.

Saw an article of hospitals in Oklahoma City laying off employees.

Hospitals are getting killed on revenue due to losing the high dollar outpatient services. Pandemics are bad for their business.

Spending on medical services is down double digits % year over year in the US. Who is getting non-emergent medical care now?

Yes. Hopefully the surgeries will return.

In all seriousness, it is concerning, and part of a next stimulus bill might have to include temporarily higher Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements for COVID treatment.

No reason to shut down until you need the space. A couple of surgeries would buy a weeks worth of PPE for the whole hospital.

How many people want to go to a hospital for ANY non emergency reason right now? Apparently not many.

But why is that? Perception. Not based in reality.
Most hospitals disagree with you. If ANYBODY gets to visit someone currently in the hospital for ANY reason they allow ONE very close relative, not the whole family or just friends.

I think I missed your original point. I think people aren’t going to the hospital because they are told not to, and also because they are terrified of a disease hyped by everyone.

you should go to as many hospitals as you can tomorrow. Mingle with the sick. Comfort them. Be the man we know you are. You are all talk.

I go to a Hospital to work every day get Temp took in the ER walk through it to go to my unit the Risk is minimal I worry not those who are worried are Clearly Cowards at heart and have a unhealthy fear of death.

Even if Miller Wanted to he couldn't, but his Risk would be Minimal if he went to a hospital. He would likely be more at Risk going to Wal-Mart than a Hospital which takes Precautions to contain C19.

I'm on a Unit right now with only 5 patients. This is not overwhelming hospitals. A lot of Staff is nervous about lost wages or possible lost jobs, one of the Big Hospitals shut down their Orthopedics facility and displaced DR's,RN's etc. because of this. This is effecting the healthcare workers and system as well.

Some people are willing to take the Risk for services and they should be able to, Have a Buddy with a Possible Torn Rotary cuff, he is in Constant pain and can hardly function he told me he would gladly get his MRI and have surgery if he could but he has been put off till June at the earliest. A RN I work with was scheduled for Back surgery this Month is in Same boat, she can't figure out why she can be exposed at Work but can't get the Surgery for Risk of Exposure. She is in constant pain and Suffering and at 69yrs of age the stress of the pain is doing more damage than the Risk from C19.

As I've stated before this is really a Big Urban ordeal, not Surprising that NYC has almost half of the deaths. Their Lifestyle is a breeding ground for that. It is a Risk they take for the reward.

The hospitals have cancelled all the surgeries not patients scared of covid. I know people who are very discouraged because they need surgeries but the hospital won't allow them.

So the demand for testing sounds great but it's not a magic pill. We still won't know what we need to know.
We'll know a hell of lot more than we know now. It's not a cure, it's information.

How many days of testing does it take to test 320 million?
Do you know what they're testing for?
I have no idea but we if we don't get started we'll never get it done. Even big business folks told Trump without the testing they can't open things up much.

Testing is never going to be big...the Cost would be to great in multiple ways. And if you started to Quarantine everyone who was positive and those in close contact for 14 days the shut down would be massive.

The CDC and Hospitals don't want massive Testing by any means. That is why the current policy's are in place. Things will open back up and we will have to deal with this and accept the outcome.

Good thing we are not a centralized government. Trump would be giving orders.
