I think you got me therehow a man struggling with the police can say "I can't breathe" 11 times if he really can't breathe?
Well I guess you could ask him, but he had the life choked out of him for selling cigarettes.

I suppose if he would have complied with the police and acted like a civilized human being, this question would be mute. However, he wanted to be Mr. Tough Guy and he wasn't tough enough.
Now the person that was in the wrong and breaking the law has others making excuses for him. Kinda sad when people take up for the criminals instead of the LEO.
So YOU can tell how you are able to say "I can't breathe" ELEVEN times while you can't breathe? he did not deserve to die for crime but he most certainly would NOT have died had he complied with the cops, just like MANY others that died by cop recently.
The man probably wanted to say, I am having trouble breathing due to the illegal choke hold you have on me. He compromised. If he was breathing so well why was he dead? Get a grip man.
I'd bet you can't talk that much if you can't breathe. Did you see the size of that dude, he is dead because he resisted arrest, PERIOD!!! Why was it worth the fight over selling illegal cigs?

So Duck how would you have handled it? Remember this guy had a history long history including assault and resisting arrest we are not talking about a first time offender, this man was well know to the police for his tactics. This man was a bully and was using a bully puplit to continue to do whatever he wanted to do because he knew there are people like you out there that would see this as not other way but some innocent man be wrongly harassed by the police if he yelled it loud enough. But since you have all the answers how would you have handled it?

Probably falling in a trap but I’m going to ask anyway. Wasn’t that what the police was doing?
No traps. The particular choke hold used that killed him had been specifically banned by the NYPD. That is why he lost his job. The question is, why did it take so long.
So should the cop have said hey can you stop fighting me for a minute, I have you in a banned hold if you will give me just a minute I will get you in more comfortable choke hold.
Idk. I would just say, if you are going to break department policy you should try not to kill someone.

You should reasonably expect to not be killed if you aren't doing anything threatening, and we should expect better from people we hire to enforce the laws.
It's true at every job on earth: you can get away with a lot until it becomes a big public blow-up. When the big wigs need blood, you'd better have followed the rules to the letter.

If you can't breathe you can't talk, at least not that much. Do what the police tell you to do and it just doesn't happen!!! IF it does then you have a complaint with the offenders.
Jesus 3R. If you are having trouble breathing what do you say? You say I can’t breathe. Which is exactly what he said. The message was clear. Let go of my freakin neck. If someone is choking me I sure as hell am not going to cooperate either. Your tough guy act is silly.
What I'm saying is if you REALLY can't breathe how do you say you can't breathe 11 times! I'm pretty sure I couldn't say it more than once or twice if I couldn't breathe. I know he did eventually die from being choked but if he had just stopped fighting them he would be alive today and probably out of jail by now, IF he ever went in the first place. In 'almost' every case of death by cop the perp would be alive if he had just complied with the cops instead of shooting at them or fighting them. If I was a cop these days I would NOT give a guy a chance to do me bodily harm and that was a VERY large person known to police for lots of bad stuff. This cop lost his job but he is still alive.
Ok. You have made your same point over and over and over. And I am telling you if an unarmed man tells you over and over he can’t breathe while you have him in a choke hold that has been outlawed by your employer you are going to lose your job.
And I told you the cop lost his job but that big dude didn't get a chance to injure or kill him or one of his buddies. If he just gave up there would have been NO reason to have him in a choke hold. You seem to keep forgetting, HE could have gone peacefully and NONE of that would have happen to either of them!
If I remember the video correctly there were 3 other cops around him while he was on the ground. I would not have a problem with him using the hold to take him to the ground if he can control the force they go to the ground so he does not get hurt, but at that point it was not like he was going anywhere. the cop should have stopped at that point.
