I notice that Max Preps has Trinity Catholic ranked #5 in the state...this would be based on what??? Not winning State championship last year, or having never won it?

Maxpreps bases their state rankings strictly on a teams record and yards for and against/points for and against, if I'm correct.

So pretty much, they're worthless when it comes to state rankings.

I think they actually put work into their national rankings though.

State rankings aren't that accurate. The lower classes get more love than they should.

But by class they are pretty spot on.

Hard to bet against 10 D1 athletes or whatever Trinity has though. Can't think of anybody else that has something like that.

Possibly, but until they beat the 5-time defending champ the 5-time defending champ gets the benefit of the doubt in my book. It's not even clear at this point that Trinity is the best team in their own district.

It very well could be the year Lamar is dethroned. The fact that it would take a private school, assembled with a bunch of D-I caliber recruits speaks volumes to the program Bailey has assembled at Lamar.

Guess this is the first I heard of a D1 athlete who is still in high school. They aren't even in college yet...genius. I guess the HS artist who just won the HS art fair is a Rembrandt. LOL

I would point out that the same was said last year, and who won? In my world you are acknowledge for accomplishment, not by what someone thinks you can do.

Ill put my money on Lutheran North, so not to worried about Trinity. Good luck skippy.

First time for everything. Guess when you sign a letter of intent to play at a Division 1 program you're not a Division 1 athlete?

Lamar. Your world is Barton County, and that's all you know. Last years team will never play again. 6 State championships mean nothing this year. Those kids are gone, and will never play for Lamar again.

Ask Scott, he will remind you it's harder to stay on top than get there.

Don't downplay Trinity because you are scared of them. LN won't get out of districts. I've seen both play. LN doesn't stand a chance.

Trinity vs Lamar will be the semifinal game and everybody knows it. I want Lamar to win. Scott and the team know it won't be easy. Hopefully they don't listen to a town drunk like you down the road.

Hopefully you don't have a kid on the team. I'd feel bad if he was getting fed stupid BS at home, when Scott is telling him the right thing to do.

Town drunk? You're concerned about my kid. I won't make this about my son, or take it to your level of insult, however I will work to identify who you are and we can discuss this sometime. You know shit and it's easy to type tough.

I think this whole thread has turned into a bunch of ridiculousness. A bunch of individuals beating their chests. Everybody needs to just chill.

I agree. Throwing insults back and forth is ridiculous. The fact is that whoever comes out of that St. Louis district, Trinity or Lutheran North, have been constructed with several top notch athletes from several different high school teams with the sole purpose of winning a state championship and dethroning Lamar. Trinity thought they would do it last year. Who knows, maybe they will this year. But, in any case, it takes nothing away from what Scott Bailey and Lamar has done over the past decade. Lamar has done this with what their small area has produced through hard work and dedication. They didn't do it by recruiting players from all over SW Missouri to form an All-Star team. To me, that is much more impressive.

Lamar is on the opposite side of the Playoff Bracket from Trinity or Lutheran North. The only way Trinity or Lutheran North will advance is for them to play one another (unless one loses early in District 2) and neither will see Lamar unless Lamar makes it to The Championship Game.

As for the part about Trinity beating LN? Unless Trinity has the ability to correct the deficiencies they had vs Lamar last year, they're going to be vulnerable to LN for the same reasons. The only common opponent they share during the regular season is Burroughs. As you pointed out earlier, this year's team is not last year's. Both schools have weaknesses. Time will tell who is most vulnerable.

According to the bracket on the MSHSAA website, they are on the same side of the bracket. District 2 and District 4 will meet in the semi-finals as long as they take care of business.

All the ratings, rankings, opinions, just mean nothing when it comes to the end of October. Harrisonville proved that last year.

It's not a pretty good job, It's a great job. They have done amazing things. 6 in a row is something we might never see again. Like it or not you have to respect what they've done.

This is a new year, with new players. 6 rings means nothing this year.

Winning 7 in a row would be cool to see. Acting like you've already won thing because you've won the last 6 is a cancer Lamar does not need.

Thus is where you have misunderstood me. I certainly do not believe, nor have I led the conversation (at least not purposefully) in a direction which lent itself to such ideology. What I will point out is this class of seniors is a unique group of their own (certainly not discrediting anyone before them), however they have only lost 2 games since their being the original third grade group to start the Lamar youth football program. The loses they sustained were to Carl Junction (fourth grade) and Webb City (sixth grade), they went undefeated 7th-9th grade, and all but a couple of these boys were starters against Trinity last year. 4 of these boys made 1000 lb. club their sophomore year, and 5 of them are now able to exceed 1000 lbs. one rep, complimented by team mates who assisted the team in breaking the existing weights record set by a class several years prior. Six rings may not mean anything, however that coupled with more strength, experience in the environment, excellent coaching, and other prominent factors will certainly not lend itself to an environment where any team in Class 2 will be an unsurmountable foe. I would jump back to their only losses being to two class 4 teams and their not having a single loss to a team in the Big 8, which I would remind is one of the predominate conferences in Missouri. So I conclude that your convictions are biased in themselves, in your misunderstanding of what this years team is capable of achieving. It will certainly be a battle, but equally a battle which has been skewed by the unfair recruiting practices allowed for private school sports programs.

FYI-I believe it was CJ that beat you in the 6th grade super bowl. They were on the side with 2 WC teams. One team beat CJ and the other did not. CJ won the super bowl that year. If my memory serves me correct Wall was on that team. Wendt (does not play football now) but one of the fastest kids in the state. Berlin now at WC. Plus several other good athletes from CJ.

Yes, that is correct. I am certainly starting to let this age thing get to me. I remember that Coop broke his arm on the first drive, and then my son would come over and tell me that the Wall boy was just picking him up and throwing him, LOL. Being the great Dad I am, I told him to figure out a way to make him not do that, excellent coaching on my part, LOL once more. You are correct that a number of these boys have moved on to become exceptional athletes. Thanks for the correction.

I guess 4 rings meant nothing to the 2015 Tigers. And 5 rings meant nothing to the 2016 Tigers.

He believes he can ride on his supposed football coaching prowess, to let us know how little chance we have over and above the true talent that only inner city athletes can bring to the field. This coupled with his ignorance in believing that all talent had been exhausted from this years Lamar team, as only the prior teams were blessed with talent that could circumvent the "once more so highly touted talent of the inner city private school recruits". He is a moron and I know longer give him any thought. I suggest all others do likewise, but to each his own.

no, he was saying that those previous rings will not win this years game. He did not even suggest (unless you are hypersensitive to the sitution) that Lamar could not win, only stated that previous successes will not be a determining factor in this years successes. You just overreacted because after 6 state championships or whatever it is in a row, you can't handle someone making even the slightest hint that Lamar might actually be beatable after all. He made a (true) comment, you overreacted... and then added the name calling (moron is always a nice touch).

LOL, your own retort would justify someone labeling you as such, as I clearly and one can merely peruse my thread of comments to see I never called anyone a moron. Do you even try to present valid arguments? It must be extremely difficult to simply have a discussion and not bring in false accusations. Someone can call you stupid, or a moron and you are correct in your assessment that they would be in the wrong, however, when you open your mouth (or in this case type a response) which validates someone labeling you as such, then that my friend, becomes your own mistake.

I liked your post because it is right on point and I have never understood why name calling has become so fashionable on these forums and why it occurs most often after a lack of reading comprehension. I presume that the anonymity afforded allows posters to forget civility because the lack thereof is attached to some fictitious name rather than their own.

Am I missing something here?

May I suggest in the future you learn to type responses outside the message you are quoting.

One of the Lamar posters in the past had a quote in his sig that said something like every village has an idiot, but our's found MoSports. I may now know to whom they were referring.
