I’m not a fan of Mauk myself, but giving him the boot 2 weeks before the season starts seems kind of crappy for the kids.
Should have let him go at the end of the school year or early in the summer. I’ve read the articles talking about an ongoing lawsuit and whatnot. I’m sure they were justified in doing what they did. Just could have been timed better is all I’m saying.
I will say, he went 51-47 in 9 years there, and though that may not seem great to most, they are right behind Kickapoo(52-42) during that same period.
Glendale went 7-2 against rival Poo over those 9 years, I’d say that’s probably the best 9 year stretch against them that they’ve had for awhile and will have for awhile.
Glendale also went 24-8 vs SPS schools overall during his tenure.

It was a quarterfinal so MSHSAA has their grip on the game feed but here is a decent recap of the game including the "brutal" helmet-to-helmet, as described by the Springfield area reporter.
Can't really see much on that particular play, might have been a legit reason to get upset, I can't tell, but the Glendale folks were over the top. Probably not helpful that it came at a time when the game and their hopes of a state championship were starting to slip away. So emotion and frustration were mounting and then that happened.
Several of the parents were on Facebook just trashing the Carthage kid for what was clearly an accident. He was going low and the Glendale kid got hit into him at the last second. It was obvious even from the absolutely awful visitor stands at that field that it wasn't intentional or malicious.
On a side note, that was the game we knew Gall was going to be special and he ended up being the most important defensive player in that run as a freshman.

The one where kearneys punt coverage launched from 5 yards head first and knocked our returner out. Yeah. Remember it.
The Glendale football team and more importantly the individual players will be just fine this year and for life after football. Not an ideal scenario for anyone but Coach Heman is top notch!
The impact from coaches should never be underestimated. Our "old" team just had a 40 year reunion with our coaches. I'm thankful they took the time to re-unite and I certainly cherish those memories from years past.
You know I tried to ask about the Kickapoo QB earlier when he transferred. I had heard it was going to be nasty I guess it ended with a coach losing a job.

Watching 8 man is like watching pickelball. I know there is a bigger court with faster players so why are we here???

Eh, I wouldn't put that at the top of a resume lol ... I mean, overall, SPS is pretty mediocre at high school football for a city of 150K.
Glendale is 16-27 against teams outside of SPS since 2017 ...
Glendale football will go back to what they had been Pre-Mauk.

I find it hard to believe that a coach faces ZERO disciplinary action for hitting a kid (not to mention the psychological abuse for years before that) yet Mauk gets the heave-ho here.
I bet the Carthage game deal making SPS look bad with MSHSAA and the public is what got Mauk into hot water
A coach hitting a kid at some nothing tournament in McDonald County doesn't mean much to the admins.
oh, well...the good seasons were nice for a while, but now it'll be back to 2-10, 3-7, 2-8, 1-9, etc.

I wouldn’t put it at the top of a resume either, but in Springfield, how you perform against your city rivals always seemed like a big deal to the people that I knew who actually went to school at SPS when they were younger.
And you ask anyone from Glendale or Kickapoo if beating their southside rival matters and they’ll tell you it does. And Mauk did just that.

He also gave Glendale their first 11 win season in school history if I’m correct.
Again, I’m not a big fan of Mauk personally, but I’m not going to take away from what he did for the team.
Glendale has been a better ball club since he arrived, but when up, he definitely padded the stats and was shooting for school and state records rather than being humble in victory.
They were 38-55 in the 9 years prior and 51-47 under his tenure.
You keep mentioning hitting a kid, and I think McTague should be gone, but the video you posted is a long way from hitting a kid. He should be gone for other reasons, but no one fires a coach over that love tap.

Hillcrest against non-SPS schools is 7-42 in the past seven seasons.
Parkview against non-SPS schools is 5-39 in the past seven seasons.
Central, in the two years Glendale faced them as part of the OC (2018-19 and 2019-20) were 0-12.
That means that three of the SPS schools that Glendale faced went 12-105 against Bolivar, Camdenton, Lebanon, Rolla, Waynesville, West Plains, etc. in the past seven years.
You know, when SPS wasn’t play itself. Which is where the overwhelming majority of the wins have come from for SPS schools.
I’m sure Glendale is super excited to be beating up on the SPS schools. But, I’ll stand my by original sentiment that I’m not impressed by the level of play in SPS and that particular “success” isn’t anything any clear thinking person should be bragging about. …
Two things can be true:
1. Mauk had success at a school that traditionally isn’t very good at football.
2. Beating up on Hillcrest, Parkview and Central is not an impressive accomplishment or worthy of mention.
Don't forget to put the Poo in there. Football's not important in SPS. Basketball and baseball are number one.
Talk about the 3 traditionally bad SPS schools but don’t mention them beating up on Kickapoo.
I said that I agree with you. It’s not glendales fault that those 3 schools were terrible.
Regardless, Mauk is out. It’ll be interesting to see which sons remain on staff or if they all leave. I’ve heard some rumors but nothing concrete.
I’d say this though: if Mauks dismissal has anything to do with the Kickapoo transfer, I’d be surprised if he maintains his eligibility.

Id say it has everything to do with, if even indirectly. The lawsuit started over the fallout from the Carthage game. The moment he filed suit, you can bet your a$$ SPS was looking for anything they could to get rid of him. They were building a case the second the suit was filed. You’re a little obtuse if you think there isn’t a cause and effect working here.
I can tell you that based off of everything I have heard, his release of employment had nothing to do with the Carthage playoff game.
I’m not going to speak to specifics, because it’s not any of my business to do so but I’m sorry guys, this has nothing to do with a playoff game from years ago. LOL
Correct. The reasoning SPS is using is the QB transfer. Had the Carthage situation, and resulting lawsuits never happened, I think it’s a pretty safe bet the same result doesn’t occur. Look, Mauck pissed off the SPS power brokers. Then he gave them a reason to get him.
So far my experience with attorneys is I do the work and pay them a butt load of money for a couple of minutes in court.
