This year's Marshall Tournament features six teams in the following pools:
Black Pool: Kirksville, Smith-Cotton, Capital City
Red Pool: Grain Valley, Sacred Heart, Marshall
Here are the results from the first two nights of action:
MONDAY'S GAMES
Grain Valley 68 Sacred Heart 37
--The 4:00 game kicked off the tournament with a blowout as the Eagles overwhelmed the Gremlins.
Kirksville 61 Smith-Cotton 55
--Kirksville mounted a 17-point halftime lead, and then withstood a furious Smith-Cotton rally in the second half to hang on for a narrow win in a game which likely determined the #1 seed in this pool.
TUESDAY'S GAMES
Smith-Cotton 86 Capital City 46
--Smith-Cotton slowly pulled away from the young Cavaliers from Jeff City, who played hard for a team of just freshmen and sophomores. Smith-Cotton threw down about five dunks as they likely booked their ticket to Friday's third-place game.
Marshall 69 Sacred Heart 68
--The nightcap came down to the final possession in a highly competitive game in which neither team led by more than six points throughout the majority of the contest. Marshall hit a free throw to go up three with about 10 seconds left. Sacred Heart's stud sophomore couldn't get off a potential game-tying three, instead passing to a teammate who drove in for a layup as time expired.
Here is the schedule for the remainder of the tournament:
WEDNESDAY:
Capital City vs Kirksville
Grain Valley vs Marshall
Unless there are some upsets tomorrow night, this would likely be the schedule for the finals:
5th Place (Thurs @ 5:30): Capital City vs Sacred Heart
3rd Place (Fri @ 5:30): Smith-Cotton vs Marshall
Championship (Fri @ 8:30): Kirksville vs Grain Valley
