The Marshall Tournament came to a conclusion last night with the hosts taking the boys' title one night after the Marshall girls did the same. In both situations it took a victory over Smith-Cotton to claim the championship--the boys winning 62-55 by pulling away in the final minutes of the fourth quarter in a back-and-forth affair. The Owls had three members on the all-tournament team as well--senior Jaylen Varner, junior Jace Lance, and sophomore Leyton Crawford.
Marshall (4-0) had advanced to the title game after defeating Sacred Heart by 25 in its opening game of pool play, followed by an 8-point victory over conference rival Kirksville in its other pool matchp. Smith-Cotton's road to the title game included a victory over Marshall's JV and a two point nailbiter victory over Grain Valley.
