Congratulations to the Malden Boys Track Team. Great job to those terrific seniors and the rest of the team. The girls did well too. Thanks for these last 4 years, Quentin, Alonzo, Ryan, Trey,& Kaleum. Hope I didn't forget anyone.
It was an absolutely terrific weekend for the Green Wave...it was great to see Trey Porter get his Gold in the hurdles and the 4 x 100 team was primed and blew away the field...everyone contributed so much to the big win BUT RYAN CRIGLAR was amazing...to be able to even compete in the 200 or the Long Jump after his 400 win was just nothing but all heart...SEMO is gonna enjoy having that young man on their squad next year...This group of seniors have brought much honor to Malden and have done so with a lot of class...way to go guys and good luck at the next level...
I am not totally sure what happened but he collapsed at the finish line after the 400...it looked like he was cramping pretty severely...I do know that he spent a lot of time in the awards tent after the 400 and had to be helped to the top of the podium to get his gold medal...what was amazing was the fact that he didn't have much recover time and was struggling so much...he long jumped two jumps before he had to go run a leg of the 4 x 100...within 15-20 minutes he had to run the 400 ...right after the 400 he had to complete the long but before he could complete the long he had to go run the 200...the timing was so tight that I was amazed that he could even run the 200 because he was limping and seemed to still be struggling with leg cramps...he was definitely visibly limping to the start of the 200...I thought that if he walked the 200 to just get a point for the team that would be a victory...I just thought that he showed a ton of heart to go out and not just run but still go after the win in both the long and 200 after the struggles from the 400...
Job well done Greenwave. What I personaly find amazing is that Malden has only had a track and field team for about 8 or 9 years now. Two state titles in less than ten years, thats impressive to me.
