This is a makeup game from earlier inclement weather, varsity start time around 730.

Who wins? The game is at Strafford.

45-35 Strafford. Licking led 24-19 at half time.

Strafford's handsy, armsy D had LIcking on their heels the second half. Had they matched aggression with aggression they might have done better or at least gotten some foul calls that would have forced Strafford to be less aggressive on D. But overall I wasn't super impressed with Licking. Holland is a great player and I felt like in a game like that she should step up more but IMO she didn't get enough touches especially in the second half.

Licking played zone but Strafford got some open 3's and they controlled the rebounding at both ends.

Didnt strafford beat skyline by 25 and skyline beat clever by 20?
What do u mean handsy like hand checking or not fouling or what?

I mean they use their hands and arms to smother on defense. If the offensive player doesn't attack against that and control that space either by drawing fouls or getting around the defender then they won't back off from doing it.

It's good aggressive fundamental defense and the other team has to attack it, not back off, IMO

He means thats his way of always getting a jab in on Strafford. Please!!! Of course Licking played a zone like most schools... because they cant guard!! Strafford played the way the refs allowed. It was clear after several no calls that should have gone to Strafford that it was gonna be a physical game. Licking didnt respond because they cant. They have one player who is impactful and despite Razzys lack of approval, she is a solid player. Id say shes better than many seniors around sw mo. Strafford shot less than 20%from the field, their leading scorer got plenty of looks but could not connect. Strafford also missed 10+ free throws- horrible shooting night overall . This is much more about poor shooting than an excuse about “handsy d”. Of course, In the last few minutes, Licking went to a man and Strafford scored in 3 seconds.

Did you miss where I said Holland is a great player? Apparently so...

That wasn't a jab, btw. It's good defense, as I said above, and Licking didn't attack it but instead backed off.

Im confuses by your explanation. Hands and arms are used in their space after they picked up the ball. Maybe you missed the fact that they force everyone to their weak hand and anticipate crossovers, getting deflections. Its called SMART defense and there is nothing Lick could do about it. Probably because they dont understand real defense so how could they know how to combat it. It takes effort and commitment to be good defenders and to teach it. Its ashamed mores coaches haven’t figured that out.

Do you two know each other or what? Why the hostility? I have watched games all over and the swmo refs let more handchecking go than other associations. Each area has a different style of what's allowed and what isn't. You two should definitely get your own teams cuz u have it all figured out sounds like. If I was betting I'd say aboveitall probably coaches a travel team. I also bet he plays man!!! Bahahah.

I'm not sure why you gotta run down Licking because they chose to play a zone or run them down in general. A LOT of good teams play zone, all the time. West Plains and Miller come to mind. Many other teams mix up the two according to matchups. And many play strictly man to man. To each their own.

Strafford plays great man to man defense. They play as physical as the refs allow and they play hard. Not taking anything away from them, so no need to get on your high horse with your chest puffed out over it. ;)

No high horse, just the facts. Your description is often “creative” then you are quick to explain in a complementary way when someone questions your choice of words. To each his own.

Aboveitall probably was a hs coach at one time and wasn't successful. Has a lot of anger built up. So if strafford doesnt score alot it is because they shoot terrible and nothing to do with the opponent. I bet u got "homered" at Helias too right. Bahaha

Is there a way to watch the game? Does strafford have a youtube channel like Blue Eye?

I said that Strafford uses their hands and arms effectively. They do it better than most teams do, Then you basically said the same thing. And I think we both agree that Strafford plays as physical as the refs allow. So I don't see the problem. We agree!

I think it's more that you got a chip on your shoulder and are akin to a can of gasoline just waiting to be lit so you can go off, and get on your high horse and puff out your chest. You're sensitive to just about anything that might even remotely come off as a slight.

But I don't take the banter on here too seriously. It's all fun and games to me.

Didn't one of the strafford girls dads used to coach like at Licking or Houston? Somewhere around there I think. Like 10 years ago? Maybe longer like 15 years. I heard that at the courts several years ago.

Then why in the heck does MSHSAA put out a rules booklet and force coaches to take a rules test and put out videos to clarify how the refs are supposed to call the game if each area is going to "interpret" those rules however they want? If a coach has to take a test on rules and then goes to an area of the state where those rules aren't enforced for whatever reason, what was the point of the test?

That is an excellent question. This is one of the videos MSHSAA sent out this season. I don't know how games are called in your area, but from the games I've seen in central Missouri, down towards Farmington and Park Hills, and all the way over towards Springfield the officials are really inconsistent making the calls this video is explicitly pointing out. Hand checks get called, but it is incredibly inconsistent. Oftentimes with none being called for awhile and then several within minutes. I have also noticed that since hand checking was made a point of emphasis a couple years ago that officials tend to call less fouls on defenders bodying the dribbler as long as they don't put their hands on them. That combined with many officials being hesitant to call a bunch of hand checks has actually made the game muckier instead of cleaning up the defense as intended. Another call that is rarely, if ever called, is carrying. Watch that video and look at the example MSHSAA wants called a carry. Again, I don't know about your area, but officials are definitely not calling it that way in the area I see games. I think the refs are worried about impacting the game too much, but if they consistently made those calls then teams would adjust and stop hand checking, bodying, and carrying. I don't blame any team for doing what the officials let them get away with, but not blowing the whistle almost always benefits the teams that aren't actually playing by the letter of the law and punishes those that truly make an effort to move their feet and keep their hands off. That's not a comment on Strafford and Licking. I haven't seen either team enough to comment much on them beyond saying they are both very good.

Aboveitall seems to think that if the Frank girls would have stayed at Lebanon they still would have 4 state titles. Fair Grove Clever and Mt Vernon would have beaten them. No Frank's means no catholic girl and no Nebraska girl. If it's a foul in Clinton and a foul in tuscumbia then shouldn't it be a foul in Springfield area?

The dad that coached in Licking was Emma Compton's dad. That might make this game mean something more then just a game. I am sure they don't want to lose to them.

Oh okay. He is AboveItAll then for sure. I knew I had heard that before. He needs to let go of the anger. Sheesh. I havent seen emma on the V level yet this year. She sounds like she is a great competitor and player. I remember she didnt back down to a team at the final 4 that was trying to be physical with her late in the game. I liked that about her.

Dang it, it works for me, I guess you have to have some kind of permission. Oh well... I've tried posting it as a .mov file but I dont think you can do that on here.

Did the Franks move to Strafford prior to the Mullings? They came over from Pleasant Hope when the dad got the softball job. Not sure when though. Lutheran North who was 2nd to Strafford last year, lost to both Clever and Fair Grove. That district was brutal. Any of those 3 schools Bingo mentioned could’ve competed for the title. Never know what happens when you get there, but there were all real salty.

Also, sounds like somebody needs to check themselves before running their mouth about other coaches. When you get fired and ran out of a school and being 25+ games under .500 in two years isn’t even at the top of the list why. That program has been made into a contender for runs outside of districts every year. Obviously they are doing something right these days.

Wow, you think you have it all figured out. Ill state this once- you are not talking to who you think or seem to want me to be. I know who you are talking about and Im sure if you have an issue, you can address in person and he will oblige. My comments are my opinion, just like yours. Putting words in my mouth about former players is a waste of time, no matter how many accounts you create to talk to yourself. Funny how you ask what people know and then you suddenly know it all. Keep your gas can, you’ve been using it for awhile.

To be clear, I post with one account only, if you were referring to me, which I only think you are because you made the "gas can" comment. I don't have any issues with who I think you are on a personal basis, I'm just here to talk basketball.

I love a good mystery

The only mystery is how Thayer and Strafford are in OT being that Thayer only plays zone... weird. I can't wait to hear ABOVEITALL after this game shakes out. Thayer barely beat Ava and lost to Salem recently.

Strafford won in double OT 51-45.
