Lebanon 43 - Fair Grove 54 (FINAL)

13-7 Lebanon end of 1st Q

Fair Grove is terrible from what I’m seeing.
& they committed 7 fouls in the first Q

Lebanons McCowan was 1-4 from the FT line in the first Q I believe.

All of Lebanons points are coming in the post.
They don’t seem to be able to make anything that’s more than 6 feet from the basket.

A LOT of missed shots all over the floor by both teams so far.

Less than a min into 2nd Q and both teams are in Bonus already.

If FG can make their FTs that will keep them in this game.

Shockley was the difference maker for Lebanon in the first half.
She’s not overly athletic, but she rebounds and if she had it underneath the basket on offense, it was going in.
Fair Grove doesn’t look very good at all. But they make up for their lack of talent and athleticism with hustle.

27-19 Lebanon at half.

17 fouls in the first half.

9 on FG and 8 on Lebanon.

29-26 Lebanon with 6 min left in 3rd.

FG may not have much talent but they are straight out-hustling the lady jackets right now

40-33 FG end of 3rd
They are winning this game on FTs and hustle.
Lebanon with only 6 points in the 3rd Q and I believe 4 of them were FTs.
Lady Jackets are definitely not a strong shooting team

FG with back to back 3Ps
48-39 FG leads with 4 min to go
FG with their 10th foul, Shockley knocks down her FTs at the other end.
48-41 with 3:30 to go

That should about do it.
FG up 52-43 with 1:26 left and they’re at the line shooting.
Great effort by FG
They definitely earned this win.

Not impressed at all with Lebanon. FG played well in the 2nd half.

Not sure they can beat WP, but should be interesting.

I agree. Was surprised. Lebanon had the size advantage and owned the post in the first half, but got out hustled in the second half.
FG just tan Lebanon ragged.
Lebanon was more athletic and talented for the most part, but FG was definitely better conditioned and they made their FTs.

10 fouls for each team in second half and 37 fouls total.
FG also owned the offensive glass in the 4th Q in particular

Lebanon needs some outside shooters to open up space for McCowan and Shockley
I think McCowan made 2 3Ps and other than that, all of their points were in the paint or at the FT line.
Lebanon isn’t a bad team by any means, they’re just very one dimensional and not conditioned very well.
If they play against a team that can run or hustle, they’re going to run out of gas

So who wins tonight between Ava vs Lebanon and Fair Grove vs West Plains?

They are both very close matchups... Ava doesnt have anyone to guard McCowan one on one like most teams don't and Lebanon lacks outside shooting and ball handling/quickness from the guards so maybe Ava should zone and put some full court pressure on the Lebanon guards here and there. McCowan is playing a little further out this season with Shockley around, something I thought she should have been doing more of her first three seasons since that's how she will play in college. She made a couple of 3's last night, but Lebanon, based on one game I watched part of and what I've heard from others, has no other outside threats really. Make 'em prove it from outside... Ava is the better perimeter shooting team, though they were a little off last night so I think they will have to make some 3's and maybe get some transition points to beat Lebanon bc Mendel might have a tougher time scoring than normal inside vs Shockley/McCowan. Both teams lack depth, especially Ava, so staying out of foul trouble is key. If Mendel gets in foul trouble, they will be in trouble against a team with two good bigs.

I predict the difference of the game is Ava guards and they win a close one.

Fair Grove vs West Plains is another great matchup. Joyner vs Green in a battle of bigs. Joyner for WP really impressed me last night, she scored some right in Mendel's face inside and can score from anywhere. Fair Grove is young but experienced, their core has been together for 2-3 seasons now and they are pretty balanced. This is a really tough call... Both teams like to press so it may come down to who handles it better. Fair Grove has home court advantage, but West Plains has Joyner and Womack coaching them, so I think they win a close one over FG.

Discuss...

Ava is not playing zone. They have been exclusively man for the entire time this group has been together.

I say Ava by a 3-4 pts.

I think they only way FG wins is if WP just goes stone cold from the 3 pt line. I say WP by 8-10 pts.

Yeah I didn't think they played much if any zone, but this is an ideal situation to play it. It'll help keep them out of foul trouble too bc both McCowan and to a lesser extent Shockley tend to draw fouls. So we'll see how they do playing man to man I guess... it could be their downfall. If they are playing man then putting pressure on the Lebanon guards and making it more of a full court game is more tantamount to them winning this game.

I see the Ava/Lebanon game as a toss up, Ava is good in the post, but Lebanon is better, but Ava is much better on the perimeter if they show up.
I think this game is going to come down to rebounds.
If Ava is knocking down shots from the outside, they win a close one, if not, whoever gets more rebounds wins I think.

For WP/FG, I think this is going to be a revenge game for the Lady Zizzers.
They lost to FG last year in this tournament when Judd somehow fouled out in the first quarter…..
and then beat Ava by almost 40 in the 3rd place game.

Joyner is averaging 25 a game so far and had 23 last night against Ava.
I think WP is the better team and they have everyone back from last year except Judd, BUT I will say that I was very impressed with FGs effort and hustle last night.

I agree with Tad, WP wins by 8-10 points
