Monett always has a very good defense. Class 3 semifinalist last year. Like Lamar, has not been tested this year. Could be a battle between Monett's swarming defense and Lamar's high powered ground attack.

Lamar's trio of suspended senior linemen have not been needed so far. (Serving a three game suspension for breaking team rules.) But, this game might be different. It is giving valuable experience to the underclassmen that are stepping in to replace them. Will provide more depth down the road.

Should be a good one. What do you think? I think it will be similar to last year. Lamar will be too explosive on offense and Monett will not have enough offense to help their defense.

This could be the surprise game of the week in SWMO. Lamar and Monett have yet to be tested this season as both have played against winless opponents. (Lamar defeated Mt. Vernon and Seneca. Monett defeated Seneca and East Newton.)

Lamar has the edge with coaching and offensive speed but Monett has the swarming defense and home-field advantage. It’s Monett’s first home game of the season so they will be pumped up to defend their house. If the Monett D can deny Lamar at least two TDs, then the win is up for grabs. Turnovers will be worth platinum. Penalties will cut deep. A lot will be on the line in this game.

The Tigers are projected to get the win over the Cubs by 11 points. Even so, a Monett upset of Lamar wouldn't surprise me that much. (Every game leading up to Week 9 vs. CJ could be a trap game for the Lamar...they have got to be burning with hatred for CJ snatching away the conference title and Lamar's perfect seasons 2 years in a row. But, Bailey & Company are disciplined enough to not let the players get too far out of focus.)

Lamar 35, Monett 24

Ill go 31-7 lamar. Grind it out and eat up the clock with 7-8 minute drives. Monett will prolly break 1 long td pass. Prolly have a couple more that will test the defence to see if they can hold after a big play

Lamar 28 Monett 14
I think Turnovers could make that Score Flip Flop but, doubtful

Just curious, how many times over the last 5 years has Lamar been held to 4 Td's or less?

Monett has a good D, but I say Lamar (as usual) finds a way to get at least 35 pts on the board (maybe not all by the offense). Lamar's D is not chopped liver. Similar to WC, I say Lamar's complete team and coaching helps them to either score on special teams and defense or at least set up a very short field.

W Card, you asked, "...how many times over the last 5 years has Lamar been held to 4 Td's or less?"

The answer is 15 times. 6 times in 2010, 3 times in 2011, 3 times in 2012, and 3 times in 2014.

2010: Lost to Aurora, 9-12; defeated Monett, 27-21; lost to Seneca, 22-42; lost to Cassville 7-42; defeated Mtn. View-Liberty 21-20; lost to Maplewood, 19-33.

2011: Defeated Monett 27-18; lost to Cassville 21-49; defeated Maplewood, 20-7.

2012: Lost to Seneca, 7-13; lost to Cassville, 0-31; defeated Mt. Vernon, 28-6.

2013: lowest score of the season was 35 points.

2014: Defeated Monett, 24-6; lost to Carl Junction, 28-29; defeated Malden, 28-2.

I know what you're saying, and I thought about that too when posting the score but, Monett has seemed to be one of the lower scoring games for the last couple years, and I'm not saying Monett wins. One because I'm not going to bet against Lamar at this point. Two because I do believe they are the better coached team but, I do think it will be closer than some think. Mainly cause of the situation SW posted above. Should be the game of the week in the Big 8, and Monett is one of the 3 teams in the Conference who might just show up and give Lamar a Ball Game!

Well, that is a very thorough answer. Thanks. Going back even farther than I intended but I did not state it well. I was thinking this year and the 4 championship years. Both the 15 times listed and 9 since 2011 is more than I thought. Still, nothing short of remarkable to me since they play up in class each week (2 classes against a top class 4 CJ team) and in a very competitive conference. Seems like nearly every week they are lighting up the score board. If I wasn't headed to HarBer this Friday night, the Lamar-Monett game would be one I wouldn't mind watching.

While Lamar's offense has been explosive the last few years I don't think their defense gets enough credit. If you go back the last two years (32 games counting two games this year) Lamar's defense has only given up more than 2 scores in 6 of those games.

2013-2014 had 3 games the 50-46 loss to Carl Junction (still one of the best games that I have seen even though Lamar lost) 56-21 win over Seneca and 60-18 win over Aurora.

2014-15 also had 3 games 29-28 loss to Carl Junction, 48-17 win over Strafford and 30-15 win over South Callaway.

Stefan! How are you these days? Do you make it to any local HS games to relive some of Friday glory days? You should all of your Ampipe buddies together and make another documentary. Kind of like a, "Where are they now" type of thing!

Having coached high school football for 27 years you guys tickle me. Who cares how many times
Lamar has scored 4 or more tds. Do the kids behave in school , do they show respect to authority.
That is why people coach. I haven't received one dime extra because we won or lost. These
are teenagers playing a game nothing more. You guys need to put up your letter jackets and just
enjoy young men putting in time to be better people. If Lamar beats monett great , monett will
not cancel school Monday because they lost. It like so many parents of kids I have coached so
worried about how we play. All kids play hard shake hands and move on.

I agree with some of what you are saying, but to say you have never received a dime for winning or losing are you serious? I don't know a program in the state that would keep a coach around if he went 0-10 every year but had choir boys for players. You didn't coach for 27 years because you never won a game. Like it or not winning and loses is tied closely to a coaches longevity at any program/school. I have never seen a coach retire from a school after 25 years that went 25-225 in those years.
