The Cuon group appears to have help from the Kim Anderson group in last nights big win over the rebuilding Iowa State team. In fact the Kim group outscored the Cuon group 40 points to 34.

We should not be to tough on Kim Anderson since his returning players will be needed for the Tigers to be successful this season. The Players listed below were part of the lean years of Kim Anderson but have experience that appears to be helpful for the 2017-18 Missouri Tigers. Cuons is very lucky to have the experience returning players from the Kim Anderson era. Cuons probable called Kim Anderson after last night big win over Iowa State and said, Thank You Kim Anderson, you are still a big part of the 2017-18 Missouri Tigers.

The Anderson returning group clocked 113 minutes while the new kids clocked 87 minutes. A college game clocks 200 minutes.

1. Jayson Barnett ---Sr.
2. Kevin Puryear-----Jr.
3. Cullen VanLeer---Jr.
4. Terrence Phillips-Jr.
5. Jordan Gent------Jr.
6. Nikko Reed-------Soph.

Yeah, but Porter Jr. only played two minutes. If he play's the whole game, that changes all of the numbers.

I'll try Eagle Ball. Many posters on mosports have been trashing Kim Anderson and his recruits @ Missouri for not winning. I was trying to indicate that the remaining Kim Anderson group will be an asset for the future success of the Missouri Tigers for the next two years. We should be a little more positive toward the Kim Anderson group instead of a total " Trash Job " of his era as head basketball coach @ Missouri. We should also remember the condition of the Missouri basketball program when Kim replaced Frank Haith. Can we say " Down and Out " and hopelessness!

Eagle Ball, what's going on in Camdenton, Missouri? Will the Camdenton basketball team be successful this up and coming season?

Isn't the real story that Kim's kids were so bad that the new coach will be running a lineup out there that is more than 60% new player minutes once MPJ is back? What does that say about the level of talent among his 18 year olds vs. the 20-22 year olds that were on the roster already?

You gotta win, and HCKA didn't. I'll say this though, some of those guys that he brought to MU will help over the course of the next two yrs. Problem is, he never recruited good enough players to win consistently. I think his core group of players would've competed well when they became jrs and srs. But man, the talent level just wasn't there. If I've learned one thing in nearly 20 yrs of coaching hoops, no matter the level, you better have good players if you want to win more than you lose.

That was the issue with Kim. I don't think he would have ever recruited well enough to compete in the top 4-5 of the SEC consistently. I think he would have gotten better when he had those solid upperclassmen every year but middle of the SEC isn't what Mizzou should be looking for. Cuonzo has had gold fall into his lap with the Porters but he should be able to recruit well enough to compete most years. As you say, talent is the big requirement at any level and even more so in D1.

One thing Kim did appear to do is clean up some of the issues Haith and company left. The guys Kim left don't seem to cause any problems and do appear to work hard and be team players. Cuonzo started in a better place than did Kim.

Neutron, Kassius Robertson ( Graduate student ) is 23 and will be 24 on 4-20-18. Kim Anderson should have hired Porter Sr. ( Pay him one million dollars per year to be an asst ) Michael Jr. and Jantay would have followed and the Missouri roster would be about the same as the is year's Martin team. Let Michael Porter Jr. do the recruiting for the 2018 Missouri team.

We can learn a lot from Kansas and still trash the Jayhawks for hiring top players father like Danny Manning. I 'm not trashing Martin for hiring Porter SR. and I have never trashed Kansas for hiring Danny Manning's father.

Cuons may have another hire in mind, The Couns could hire Countney Ramey's dad next season if he could deliver Courtney Ramey and get a release from SLU for Carte'are Gordon.
I don't believe Cuons is finished hiring coaches who have sons who are high level college basketball players.

What happens in your scenario if MP Sr says I'll only come when Kim is canned? In what delusional world do you think MPJ wanted to play for Kim Anderson?

This is total wishcasting. The team was awful under him. It's ok to admit he failed. No decent recruit wanted to come play for him anymore.

Speaking of wishcasting, why would Gordon to go to Mizzou now? He just signed his LOI! He's had months to change his mind/be swayed by the new regime.

I really don't get why Gordon signed, though. He's so good compared to their average recruit. What is SLU going to do if he says I'll see you next August but I'm not signing a contract that only benefits you. You and I both know they'd hold a spot for him.

I'll try. Kim had decent players but couldn't win, Cuonzo has some of Kim's players and some of his own (who are MUCH better than Kim's) and won and will win. CM and staff are coaching these guys, the new guys make the old ones look/play better. Puryear, Geist, and Barnett worked and played just as hard last year, they didn't have good enough players around them to help. They received very little in game coaching last year too (IMO). If Van Leer is still starting in a month, I will be shocked.

fell int his lap us exactly right. When that happened other players decided to show at Mizzou too. This was a case of NOT great recruiting by Martin. I hope he adds to this crew with the same caliber of players in the future but this class has very little to do with who the coach is.

Do you really think they'd have come to Mizzou if Kim or someone they didn't like were here?

I agree it was good timing and all that, but he did have to seal the deal.

Everything I heard makes me believe mom sealed the deal when she said she wanted the family back together. I also believe they felt like their kids, and maybe dad too, could make Mizzou a lot better and help bring in other high-level recruits no matter who the head coach was. Like I said, I hope Martin gets top recruits every year and takes Mizzou basketball to the top of heap in the SEC and beyond.

Future recruiting for Missouri:

Cuons has signed Torrence Watson from St. Louis Whitfield. Torrence is a shooting guard. Could someone give a report on Torrence?

I think the story is how much Cuonzo and co have improved the play of Anderson’s players. Some of that is bringing in new guys so the old guys can play more of a supporting role, but a lot of it is these guys are just playing much better.

Getting a year older has something to do with it as well.

There was very little improvement under Anderson, even as these guys got older. I think it’s got more to do with getting some real coaching.
I'm not convinced of that, but I am convinced that Martin recruited great talent. And has gotten them to buy in on defense as a unit. And to insinuate Martin didn't have a ton to do with this is silly. I think it was a package deal/perfect scenario. These things don't just happen because mama wasn't happy. I think everyone knew what everyone was doing the moment MU announce Martin's hiring. It makes sense. Why he turned down the Illini. Why MU signed him to the contract they did. Why he was even a viable candidate.

I just don't believe Anderson wasn't coaching them. The roster wasn't talented enough, simply. But now these guys are a year older, AND they've got the benefit of having much better players around them. CVL isn't doing anything different than he was last year, but he's getting much better looks. Puryear isn't getting defended by the other teams best post defender. With Anderson, and those same players MU wouldn't have had much success. Take the new players and their great talent, sprinkle in some CVL, Phillips, and Puryear and you've got a pretty darned competitive roster. Those guys offer the experience and ability that I wish UK could get every year. UK has their best years when there's a Willis or Miller or Harrelson to go with all the youth.

wcowherd., are you a " Die-Hard? A die-hard is someone who will never admit a wrong. The facts support big improvement by the veteran players on the Missouri roster. I believe Couns has improved the Anderson players but we must also give credit to Kim Anderson for recruiting them and giving them playing time to be the players they are today. Why do you continue your " Die-Hard way " by trashing the vastly improved Cullen VanLeer? Cullen is playing major minutes and excelling in his role as a Tiger player.

wcowherd, You can help get rite of the " Die-Hard " label by giving a little credit to Kim Anderson and the vastly improving Cullen VanLeer. I enjoy your post.

I suffered through the Kim Anderson era. There is nothing good you can say about the coaching performance he turned in.

I have two friends who are Die-Hards ". One is in SEMO and the other is in St. Louis. They will never admit a wrong. When I make bets with them, it's like taking candy from a baby.
