Kearney 42, Platte County 39......what a way to end the regular season!

After what happened in KTown last Friday night vs. a very motivated Staley I was not 100 percent sure what to expect tonight...............extremely pleased overall but feel there are a few things to clean up before a likely rematch for all the marbles in three weeks and it all starts up front on both sides of the ball. The pace of the offense tonight was outstanding and it appeared that side of the ball really awoke once the Dogs fell behind 14-7. Were I PC would be very concerned about the depth differential and keeping fresh for four quarters defensively. The defense, thanks to the best passing offense I have seen in some time, was under the gun all night and executed a HUGE goal line stand which switched momentum enough for K to, as it turned out, hang on.

Platte County impressed me big time in many ways especially the QB and receivers plus they have a nice back which will come in handy should the weather turn colder/nastier. Their O Line kept pressure at bay allowing Mitchell to find a corps of very sure handed receivers (the tall kid on the outside was especially impressive) and one could see why they are averaging those crazy numbers so far. Frankly there is NO defense in C4 that will stop that attack, only extreme weather conditions or a rash of (hopefully not of course) injuries will hamper them going down the road through the playoffs.

Overall one of the more entertaining games I have witnessed in a while and one I cannot wait to see happen again for the District title and beyond (I firmly expect the winner of the rematch to advance to Springfield). Which side cleans up the issues exposed tonight on both sides will no doubt end up the winner.............

Very well done Hat ! This game was very entertaining. to watch. PC dictated the pace of the game and Kearney was able to match it and then some particularly in the 2nd half. PC QB Mitchell is an outstanding passer but seems somewhat prone to make key mistakes at crucial times in the game. That goalline stand that you mention was exhibit A last night. Mitchell's big receiver Watts (#23) is as good as I have seen this season. Jess Davis was equally outstanding for Kearney.

Always marvel at these kind of statements...I can't figure out how you guys get around the state to watch all the other class 4 teams during just 9 short weeks.

Been doing this for four decades now...............the one factor that could change things is weather. The one thing I will say, though, is the weather will become a factor soon: these spread offenses tend to do not-so-well in cold or rainy/snowy conditions.

I opted to check out this game rather than the Saluda Bell and was glad I did! What a heck of a game between two outstanding C4 teams. Kearney out coached PC greatly, and I was pretty disappointed/befuddled by some of the PC staff's decisions.

I do not understand how in the world you don't try to give #23 the ball a dozen times. He is the best WR I've seen at that level in a while and was possibly the best skill guy on the field (Although #23 from Kearney made a case for that title as well)

There were a few 4th and shorts I thought PC should've went for, I don't understand punting on your own side of field when the first down is less then 4 yards away. Especially when you've got a HS punter back there who is just as likely to punt it 10 yards as he is 40 (as PC did last night) however after watching PC at the goal line I can see how the coaches might feel like they couldn't get a surge in short yardage.

And in regards to the goal line stand, great job by Kearney that was entertaining as all get out, I would've loved to see the PC staff try to punch it up the gut with big ol #1 rather than handing off. I think with a QB of that size you might stand a better chance using the back as a lead blocker with the QB behind him. Also would've loved to see a fade thrown up to #23 Watts, I don't think Kearney could've stopped that.

Overall that was a great high school game, and both teams are very good. I think eveyone knows how good Mitchell is from PC, but I was equally impressed by Pritzel of Kearney as well.

Seems impossible that nobody can stop it or PC would have scored every time they had the ball this year
They are good at stopping themselves. There is one thing that could change things but it is a real roll of the dice with their quick release QB...............send the house after him. If Kearney can do that in the rematch then maybe. That being said this QB Justin Mitchell is a very, very good decision maker and pretty quick on his feet................but, yes, not perfect.

Staley got burned by it as well. #23 is a superstar number no doubt for both squads.........
