Kearney 28 Eye Patch 6

I have an idea! Let's throw it 42 times for 100 yards. That will surely work! Connery goes for two fifty lol. Nice

Game not as close as the score. K had to outgain them 3 or 4 to 1. Total domination.
Yep. If Kearney cleans up the offense (too many holding pens) and Ah Mu gets it going look out. The D is the real deal this year...............

It was a beat down.
Platte County actually held up well in the first and third quarters (Kearney looked hung over from the Staley game in the first quarter, frankly) but got totally outplayed in the second and fourth. Just don't have the numbers especially on D yet again. I did, however, like the QB. The kid is another in a line of PC gunslingers.

PC may never beat them again!
They've gotta get more numbers out. Their lack of depth showed again tonight. All is not lost for them they will win their share of games and who knows maybe they will hold up better should these two meet in November.

PC had a good 1Q drive then got owned by K defense. Penalties by K are the only little ray of sunlight PC had .

It was a 1 score game with 5 minutes left; Kearney had 1/2 their yards in those last 5 minutes. Sloppy game, sloppy reffing and a good win. Weather probably affected PC more - their QB slung the ball around, he struggled gripping the ball (and their C really struggled with his snaps.) Ah-mu doesn't look as sharp as he did last year - hit the long pass in 4th, but other than that, his timing just isn't as sharp.

I checked this one out tonight too. Connery is a hell of a back, as good as there is in C4. I thought in dryer weather PC might look a little different, but everyone was slipping and sliding who knows Connery might could've went for 350 on a dry field. PC def had their chances

I think some of that is he has brand new WRs (last year's corps was very good and experienced) but part of this week, to me, was he looked like perhaps the Staley game affected him. It is still early and the most rugged part of the schedule is over BUT this team cannot just show up and expect to win.

All that being said this D is the real deal. I could tell Week 1 it was much more than just HVille is starting over. Now gotta keep all the key performers healthy and get better each week and it will all work out.

PC had one TD call reversed (I was at that end on the visitor side saw it clearly was not a catch) but K basically left about 17-24 pts. on the field. On a clear evening this one probably ends around 45-14 Dogs.

Most of the first quarter K looked hung over from the Staley game. Once the D got up to speed PC was relying way too much on a gritty but inexperienced gunslinger QB plus they all but shut down the run. This game is another example why the spread can look so dynamic and exciting vs. ordinary Ds but can get blown up by the top ones.

The Blue Division is more like the pink division these days.

The nose of Kearney was causing some problems in the exchange.
The K defense is solid.
PC to their credit is scrappy. I am biased for I don't like the forward pass.
This is not a great Kearney team but its improving.

This is one of Kearney's better defenses, definitely best since 2015 BUT the offense is just not in sync yet. Cannot just count on Connery to run wild week in and out especially when playoff time rolls around.

He's probably had more reps with these receivers than last year's group - he was #3 on the depth chart until week 3 or 4, so he really wasn't playing with those guys (he was getting reps with these receivers - and had time with them in prior years.) I wonder if it's confidence with the blocking - the really don't have/aren't using a TE in the passing game (extra blocker.) The passing game needs to provide more of a compliment to Patrick.

The D - especially the secondary looks better, this was their first test against against a team that could move the ball through the air.

This is a bit like 2009. I wonder if they have anyone who could play FB as well. That would make a huge difference at times in the running game and agree TE really is not there, either. During the Staley game I pointed out I thought they could look at perhaps a short, possession passing game to set up the run better. I don't really care for them running so many sideline routes and not doing anything over the middle (slants etc.). Again this D is the real deal and I agree the back end looks lots better than last year in particular.

PC doesn't have the rec. kids to run by you this year. The Q is short and he is a good runner and can hit people while he's running around. The run game is below average. They are clever play callers and the staff gets a lot out of them. Tonight wasn't one of their better nights obviously.
The PC strength is still the defense. They're aggressive and scrappy, but if you run at them, you can mash them as when K decided to stop goofing around and run over them.

  1. PC defense has allowed two RBs to combine for 625 yards rushing in last two consecutive weeks.
  2. They have beaten OP and PHS. They've been helped with fortuitous turnovers and penalties in their favor while essentially getting run over. It's a head scratcher.

I remember seeing Connery play as a soph and thinking to myself "that kid is going to be tough to handle by the time he's a senior".

PC has surrendered near 8 yards per rush versus two backs. The question becomes, why risk drive killing incomplete passes?

I watched a fair amount of the game online. If Kearney would have cleaned up some silly penalties it would have been a blowout. They were clearly the superior team but let PC hang around.
Being at the game in person there was a lot of chippiness both ways. High school aged kids go figure.............

What affected PC more was the physical play of the Kearney defense. Q4 Platte County defense was beat-up, worn out. Physical play was owned by Kearney.
