Seems very accurate

That is the preseason overview. Like any other season Lord knows what will really happen. The most intriguing teams are ones like Smithville with brand new HCs. Utterly stunning how fast the pendulum seems to have swung back east between the Warriors and KMO Dogs................

I always find it interesting to see what folks think. I was speaking with a guy yesterday about the K matchup upcoming and we spoke about grace of course and the previous years finish. He seemed optimistic as the junior level team has always faired well against K through the youth level. While I would love to follow his optimistic outlook I'm just not sure youth always translates to HS ball.

The varsity HC and staff are a whole other deal, though. Very unpredictable, innovative offense and they have about as exciting a RB as I have ever seen here who will be just a JR. The good part is that will be Week 6.

You are likely to remember but go back and check out the last time Minnick and Allie locked horns: Nov 12 2021 C5 District Championship game...............

Great game for sure but the year before Allie whips him 42-7, obviously its HS and coaching can only take you so far sometimes the talent isn't there and you turn out the best you can or injuries happen so its really hard to ever judge except by the consistency and both coaches check that box big time. Like I said I wanna stay cautious as I don't think I will trust the youth stats. It is even harder to look at last year because the mutual opponents are either beginning of season (first 3 weeks mean shit, or Belton who they both routed and played freshmen in 2nd half or at least GV did it may have been JV for K but not starters either way

2020, sorry, is an asterisk year for me. Compare the available talent in a fast growing suburb like Grain Valley vs. Raytown, a looooong term downtrodden program Minnick brought to C5 prominence almost overnight. I know I probably read gushy at times but I don't think the job he did there can be overstated! Kearney is sooooooo fortunate to have him as HC. Perfect? Nope. Excellent.............

Probably can rely on youth-level experiences to some extent. 8th grade usually means little because some schools strictly split playing time. The current senior class at K has been great at every level. In 9th grade, they beat their Smithville counterparts by 30, and Platte County by 14. Their starting D only gave up one TD in eight games. Despite the last class having what they had, this is a peak class for Kearney , in football and athletic talent. Because they aren't just successful in footbal, but baseball and track as well. Somewhere on a post here I gave everyone a heads up three years ago what was coming.

He wasn't exactly stellar against Staley in that playoff game that we saw..!

Nope lack of talent coupled with lack of experience at the time, Homey. Losing the star QB mid game did not help matters one bit. Even given that who would ever have thought ANY coach would lead Raytown to a State Quarter?????

PLEASE, everyone, remember (not meant to offend in any way) because I like and admire (call it as I see it) someone's work DOES NOT mean I like or know them personally. HUGE difference. The greatest chemist I ever met in my going on 40 year career who I beyond admire and credit for where I am today was the biggest a-hole outside his work and I refused to associate with him outside the workplace.

Hope that makes sense.

My memory was that Minnick was way "overamped" for that game and it was reflected in how his team played that day. True that the QB was injured late in the 1st half but he had not played well up to that point.
Staley got there's the following week vs. Jackson.

The Jackson game is a wonderful HSFB memory indeed! Who else travels that many people 300 miles????? A defensive struggle until the Indians opened up late. Had Staley had their QB1 who knows how that would have turned out?

Lack of talent? D1 skill players all over the field. Coach does a good job. I’m sure he’d be the first to tell you he’s had great players at both stops.

if 2020 is asterisk then so is 21 because we were still dealing with the 15 minute exposure to quarantine bs

Correction this HC does a GREAT job. Here is another correction for you: DEPTH instead of talent. As I recall they had a sure fire D1 D Back don't remember his name doggone it.

I will tell you the current seniors from K beat the life out of the GV team they played in youth...and that was with split teams.

I wasn't here for that but I can definitely see that as there is a low number of seniors this year compared to the norm. Which is why I'm considering this a rebuilding/growing year for GV

How long do you expect Allie to continue coaching? All of a sudden look up he's been at it for quite some time!

Has been rumors of him leaving and brock bult coming over since I moved here. At first it was he was done last year as that's when his daughter graduated, now it's this is last year or next year is last year. Honestly as long as it is fun and not a job he may continue for a long time. If GV would pony up the money to pay him as coach only and not teach that would probably make him want to stay a bit longer. In my best opinion there was no reason to come back this year and leave at the end because he had a great season last year and this year is a much bigger challenge /rebuild year so I'd assume a minimum of 2 but could be much longer.
