I really, truly do miss a complete and properly done prep football box score … it’s a lost art that disappeared over the past 15 years.
I was a sports writer at The Joplin Globe from 1997-2004 and I remember the late Wendell Redden, Anvil Welch, Jim Henry and others teaching the proper way to keep football stats and how a high school football box score should be done.
Friday night after I was done with work, watched a replay of a game on MSHSAA.tv and kept stats off the video. Did an entire box score too. It was nice seeing box scores from around the state in the KC Star, Springfield News-Leader, Jeff City Tribune, Columbia, St. Joe, etc.
