Just read an article in the Joplin Globe about the changes coming to KS football (and other sports) with regards to classification. I thought it was a little interesting. 6A, 5A, 4A each with 32 schools. 3A and 2A each with 48 and the catch-all is 1A. I believe there are also 2 8-man divisions not included in this. They are eliminating the weird 4A-2 type classes.
The larger divisions play a tournament bracket arranged by geography at the end of the regular season - there are no districts. The smaller divisions start district play after the 4th week of season. Also, they are eliminating the mid week playoff game, like Missouri did a few years ago. Nothing was mentioned regarding the start date of the season, so I assume they are still starting 2 weeks later than Missouri, as they should.
Of course keep in mind that KS and MO are apples and oranges. Kansas has significantly fewer "large" schools and fewer schools overall. Pittsburg with only 800 or so students, is middle of the pack 5A for example.
