BMWE Union folks say RR's are planning to start cutting services in anticipation of a strike on the the 20th. There is NO plan as of now to strike until after the other RR crafts have finished the process of ratifying or rejecting a contract. They say the RR's are doing this to influence congress to pass a bill to force RR workers to stay on the job. There is already a bill waiting for vote to do just that.

They will be forced to work.... I 100% disagree with that. I'm not a fan of Unions but forcing people to work is way to authoritarian for me.

Maybe they should just force the RR's to give them sick leave like federal contractors get, that's what they ask for. The BMWE guy that put this information out also said it would cost the RR's 1 penny of every dollar of profit they are making, and that's if every RR worker used ALL of their sick leave for the year. You should tell the RR's there will not be a strike so they don't start shutting things down before anything even happens.

Congress should have to cover whatever the RR workers want that is beyond what the companies are offering, if they force the workers to work. (I hope that made sense.)

I get your drift but the RR's should give it to them no more that it would cost them to do it. This could get ugly if congress makes them stay on the job after 3 years with no contract and some workers were already wanting to call a wildcat strike. It's been that way for every new contract since 1973 that I know of. This time the RR's are going to give them full back pay for all hours worked at the old pay rate up til they have a new contract. We NEVER got full back for on any contract in my 30+ years. They usually gave us about a years worth of back pay.

Forcing them to work is BS. The RR do have some pretty decent benefits it sounds like, even with a crappy Sick Leave system.

They do and I don't think this is the right time to shut everything down over the sick leave but they should have had that 30 years ago. The RR's cut so many people in the last few years they can't keep things running if anyone is off. That's especially true for the train service folks, they've cut so deep they can't let anybody off more than their normal time off between runs.
