Joplin (49), Carl Junction (13)...Final!

I was behind their bench...looked like a freshman team.

strange sequence of plays on a cj offensive series in the 1st half. qb throws a pass which hits the ground, down marker says 3rd down, which was correct. both side judges signaled a lateral. joplin picked it up,ran it back for an alleged td. white hat 7 yards behind the play runs down with the players and signals td. cj player walks over, they have a discussion and white hat trots over to HC jasper to tell him its not a td,forward pass apparently. next play the down marker still says 3rd down, but it's not its 4th down. incomplete pass for cj. cj lines up for a fg on 5th down which they missed. radio guys talked about it throughout the rest of the broadcast.

Was listening to Joplin postgame on my way home from WC. Jasper said the white hat blew the play dead inavertantly, therefore the rule is the down is replayed.
Thanks for the explanation. The officials didn't explain anything.

nope..if he blew it dead why did he run down and signal td. plus he overruled both his side judges who had a better angle. the angle being near the Los. white hat was 7 yards behind the qb.

I've never seen a down replayed in high school football after the play is dead. the whistle wasnt blown before the play started or during. also if a ref throws a flag during a scoring play the ref doesn't signal a score. I dont see an inadvertent whistle being any different post deadball, the guy made a point to run 70 yards and signal a td.

This exact scenario played out in 2015 with cj vs Webb week 1. Webb picks off a pass in the end zone ...in the process of running it back for a TD ....inadvent whistle ...chaos ensues .... roderique blows up ...somehow they replay the down (which was already 4th down) buck changes his mind on going for it and kicks a fg. It caused mass confusion and about a 10 min delay

to me it's just a ref feeling sorry for an opponent getting their arse kicked. stay out of the game and let the kids play. your job isn't to keep a game close or keep a team from being embarrassed.

Maybe but in that scenario Cj was winning and fairly easily won the game so I doubt the refs felt bad for them

I figured Buckmaster was going to leave after either this senior class or the sophomore class was gone. There is no talent coming after sophomores.
Would a high school coach really leave after one down, but not terrible season and not having good feels about upcoming talent? Isn't that something he could help play a role in and rectify?

I have heard from several friends over there that their talent pipeline was very iffy after this year and their youth sports are kind of a mess right now, which has been confirmed with a few articles I've read in the Globe. But where else around here could/would he want to go? CJ seems to me as overall one of, maybe the best district around. Unless he leaves the area entirely. He's jumped around a lot it seems.

Coach Jasper told us that it was an inadvertent whistle. The white hat blew his whistle early on a perceived incomplete pass. Jasper also said that, by rule, anytime there is an inadvertent whistle is counts as no play. Go figure. That's why the down went over. The ref basically told Jasper he blew it and it should have been a TD.

ok did he blow the whistle before the ball hit the ground. that would an inadvertent whistle and I understand. but if he blew it after the ball hit the ground that's not inadvertent...that's just a whistle after dead ball. the play counts. if he blew after the Joplin player had possession then it should be joplin's ball. if he said he made a mistake and it should of been a td then I assume he blew it after joplin assumed possession. Joplin's ball a point of possession.

Inadvertent whistle no matter when in the play and it’s a do over just like nothing ever happened

The youth sports association has been a joke there for close to 20 years now. Too many Chiefs and pretty much zero Indians.

That’s how it should be, but not how the rule is written.
