For those of you who worship false idols.
Don't worry about who the messenger is, listen
to the statistical evidence. This dude has been a terrible
shortstop for a LONG time.

Not the greatest

Just stop. No one is saying he is the greatest shortstop of all time. But he has had an impact on the most liked team in Baseball America for the last 20years. In the top ten in hits and has 5 World Series rings.

Cal Ripken got the same tour.

It's ok.

Now go kick rocks you grumpy bitter man.

Casual fan has spoken. You are the exact fan he alluded to at the beginning of the video.
If you were paying attention people have been bowing to him for 20 years. He is not worthy.
Like Keith said, where was the tour for Scott Rolen? This is absurd.

Go back down to the river and drink beer so you can brag about it like a 15 year old.

Jeter was an offensive shortstop, and MAYBE an average at best defender, who just had a knack for the highlight play

Just because I'm curious to see what you have to say.... What do you think of Starlin Castro?

You're such a sensationalist and so, so dramatic.

For starters, WHY NOT CELEBRATE JETER? He did it RIGHT for 20 years. You want to sit here and b*tch about bad role models then turn around and b*tch about good ones. Jeter was a class act. He has won FIVE WS. He was a great all around player, and person.

You can tell this joke is looking for viewers and outrage.

Casual fan? Maybe. But I can tell it doesn't take much to surpass your understanding and knowledge of the game.

And yes today would have been a nice day to back the truck up to the river and throw a line out. Good times.

You didn't even watch the video or look at the statistical comparisons.
You saw it was Jesus, I mean Keith and you shut your feeble brain off.
Once again. You attack the messenger or mosports poster without
looking at the evidence. And you wonder why people rip on you.
Hanny and Veer have you pegged like a Yadi throw to second.
FYI, Yadi is the catcher.

My exposure to him has been limited. He looks like a great athlete with great range who can make the sensational play but has some growing up to do with regard to putting out consistent effort and not going in the tank if he botches the routine play. Once again I haven't
seen him extensively.

Perhaps a young Garry Templeton.
What are your thoughts?

I don't think he was the ever the best active SS of his era. Career WAR of 71, so nothing to sneeze at. But nothing to stop the presses for either. Make no mistake, he's being celebrated because he's a Yank-me and has been for 20 yrs. And because somehow the Yank-mes feel like it's profitable. It's something to be celebrated, but I'll DEFINITELY watch more of the MLB channel and not ESPN the last weekend. They'll just wear this thing out...Wonder how much of this farewell tour would be happening if he had been an Indian for the last 20 yrs. Or how many World Series wins he'd have...Very solid player. Never in trouble. Biggest media market. I get it, but not sure it's warranted.

I'm listening to 101 right now and just heard the whole thing. I'm attacking you because you're an idiot for buying into this.

Lastly what is the point of this? What is the point of bashing a guy who played hard, never was involved in steroids during that era, he put up consistent numbers? Seriously, why does it bother you or him? Why does it bother you that people loved Willie McGee? Does it affect you in some why?

Lol at you and veer ripping on me. Heart breaking.

Eagles, you're going to tell me that a guy like Yadier Molina is not great? Because of his WAR number? Really?

2011, Yadier Molina a WAR of 2.8.

I'll run with that. Was kinda hoping DT would bite since he is on the Jeter farewell tour parade committee

Castro's mental issues come with an * that you can either accept or ignore and act like they wouldn't bother you if you were in his situation:

1) he was brought up too early, which caused a lot of his early problems. Previous owners/FO had no idea what they were doing other than spending money

2) last season he was in a major lawsuit over his contract. A "scout"back in the DR was suing him for $10 million i believe... because he felt he was owed that as a percentage for getting him into the majors. Very complex and settled

3) at the end of this season, his cousin and best friend were killed in a car wreck back in the DR.... In Castros car.

As for him as a player. He makes bone headed moves. For the most part, he has made huge strides and pretty much looks like most guys now out there. I can personally live with it due to his offensive upside....which is where DT and Jeter love come in

I will be speaking in general numbers here, as it's been at least a month since i checked last. Castro had about 300 more career hits and about 80-90 more doubles at the exact same age. I also believe that Castro has put up slightly better defensive numbers as well in that time frame.

Just interesting to compare
