True but they lost in arb for first time in a LONG time. He got what he asked for rather than take what they offered for a guy that will be the opening day starter for the 2nd time in his short career. We'll see what he does this year but why piss off your best pitcher for that kind of difference in pay? They had to stand up in front of him and tell him he wasn't worth what he ended up getting. probably make a guy want take lot harder look at leaving down the road.I mean, he was always going to “be back”. That’s how arbitration works. It’s this offseason where he’s going to test the market.
He was going to do that regardless. Arbitration is more about the next guy than the current guy. It’s just how the system works. Jack could’ve signed for much more money with a multi-year deal, but he’s told the Cards to not even bother. He’s not signing a deal before free agency. He’s betting on himself. Unless he has a big injury this year, it probably pays huge returns for him.True but they lost in arb for first time in a LONG time. Most likely, and probably somewhere else.He was going to do that regardless. Arbitration is more about the next guy than the current guy. It’s just how the system works. For sure. He’s about 99.9% gone, especially if he has a good year. He’s a big market/west coast guy. Most likely, and probably somewhere else.
Birds already know he's not staying here. That's why they wanted to get him cheap this year. Can't really blame them for that. For sure. He’s about 99.9% gone, especially if he has a good year. He’s a big market/west coast guy.
Why wouldn't he want to stay with then team they have put together?I know if he gets a lot more money somewhere else, which he probably will he would go but they've handed out a lot more money now than any of us thought they would to have the team they will field this season.Birds already know he's not staying here. You grew up in the rural midwest. Would you like LA? Jack grew up in LA. Think he really cares for the midwest? It’s not always the case, but he’s obviously got some values that don’t jive with a large portion of the fan base. He also seems to really like where he’s from and grew up. I think if the money were the same, he’d be gone. And I can’t imagine the Birds outbidding the Dodgers, Angels, Padres, or Giants. Dude I don't even like St. Louis but they do have quite the history/tradition in MLB. I don't guess I know anything about his values except that most folks like more money for whatever they do.You grew up in the rural midwest. Would you like LA? Jack grew up in LA. Word is they're still in the market for another arm.His sample size of pitching is pretty small. A record setting half season in 2019 and a very average year in 2020. If he is that average guy this year the Birds will have to scramble to make the playoffs!
Pretty sure they've backed off of that in the last week or so. If "in the market" means a guy like Odorizzi can be had on a 1-yr deal, then they are. But other than that, it'll be a non-roster invitee type.Word is they're still in the market for another arm.
