Here's the problem with that, our fearless leader tends to dabble in extremely small sample sizes and gut feelings...sooooooooo...it wouldn't surprise me to see Garcia at 2B. His value is as the primary backup middle IF guy, and a bat handler off the bench (Adams and Gyorko are obviously the pop off the bench). Wong needs to play well enough to be the starter. If not, Gyorko has to get the first nod (assuming he's not the starter at 3B). The construction of this roster and lineup doesn't benefit from a Garcia type in the lineup.I don't really care what someone hits in spring training. The sample size is tiny. He has 39 at bats.
MO paid Wong and Wong is going to play and we will have to listen to him tell us how great he is and it's sombody's else fault. He's hitting .167 with no HR's and a couple of rbi. I don't follow this stuff like some you guys do but it seems to me Garcia has made a pretty good case for a spot somewhere and that would most likely be at 2nd wouldn't it?
Every time I hear a game on the radio Shannon mentions Wong has had a very bad ST.MO paid Wong and Wong is going to play and we will have to listen to him tell us how great he is and it's sombody's else fault.
I haven't watched many ST games at all, but from everything I've read and heard on the radio...it hasn't been pretty at all. I'm all for giving him the shot once they start keeping track. The Birds really are better if he's good enough to be the starter.Every time I hear a game on the radio Shannon mentions Wong has had a very bad ST.
They definitely need his physical capabilities. If he could just figure out the mental part he could be all-star material.I haven't watched many ST games at all, but from everything I've read and heard on the radio...it hasn't been pretty at all. I certainly agree that 39 ABs is not very many, but how many ABs does he needs before we decide he may not be the hitter we thought he was going to be. It's not like his struggles started this spring. I hope he has a big year (of course I want all Cardinals to have a big year and he seems like a legitimately good guy), but some people seem to think he has done enough to earn the job no matter what he hits. Is he truly that elite of a defensive player? Is he so much better than Garcia that you can overlook an 70 point difference in on base percentage? Perhaps he is, but I don't think he has proven it.I don't really care what someone hits in spring training. The sample size is tiny. He has 39 at bats.
He can make some crazy athletic plays, it's the ones hit right at him that give him trouble. I see that a lot on different levels and I don't understand why? Too much time to think about it I guess? On a ball in the hole or up the middle you just go get it and can't think about it.I certainly agree that 39 ABs is not very many, but how many ABs does he needs before we decide he may not be the hitter we thought he was going to be. Honny can hit 4thMaybe, just maybe Wong is the perfect example of Mo's biggest issue in my eyes.
He over values some of the organizations youngsters. His inability to pull the trigger on deals for a middle of the lineup hitter is maddening. He won't act until we hit rock bottom this year and then he will overpay next winter.
Wong is in the paper today crying about how he might have to platoon. I am so tired of this crybaby. I wish they would trade him for a bag of peanuts.Maybe, just maybe Wong is the perfect example of Mo's biggest issue in my eyes.

Garcia isn't his competition. Gyorko is. If Garcia is a regular on this team, the Birds are in serious trouble. Is he truly that elite of a defensive player? Never trade low. Makes zero sense.Trade Wong. He is a millionaire cry baby. Cancer to the team.
A bag of salted peanuts seems to be about right.Never trade low. Makes zero sense.
Throw in some of those nachos in a helmet and two sixers of mix and match crafts and I might drive him to the airport. And I like him. LolA bag of salted peanuts seems to be about right.
Problem there is he will have to play a lot to hopefully prove he's worth something to somebody. Then if he does you probably need to keep him.Never trade low. Makes zero sense.
Which is probably why the inept gut feeling of our fearful manager shouldn't make a decision based on a 40AB ST sample size. Give him 100 ABs early as the regular (even if platooning with Gyorko) and just let him play. It's amazing how awful Matheny is at handling these things and playing hunches on playing time.Problem there is he will have to play a lot to hopefully prove he's worth something to somebody. Then if he does you probably need to keep him.
