They're have been about 7 teams in northern part of missouri that has been impressive after 3 weeks of football.

Class 1
Monroe City- Monroe City have been a powerhouse for the past 6 years. Won a State championship in 2017 and Finished 2 in 2016.

Mark Twain- this is a Surprise too me. started the season 3-0 with a new first time head coach. They have a couple power backs in the backfield and a fast kick returner. Defensive is kind of shakey but i could see improvement towards the end of the season.

Highland- Possibly the biggest surprise in Mshsaa football during the past 3 weeks. they're 38-0 beatdown over Clark County tonight makes me think they're a Championship contender.

Class 2

Bowling Green- Bowling Green is just so darn Good. they're about the best team in Class 2. i see them making a long Playoff Run

Hallsville- i won't count Hallsville out. 3 wins starting the season. Haven't play a tough team yet but Justin conyers is a amazing coach

Class 3

Mexico- Mexico has had 3 great wins starting this season . They have 6 Returning Offensive and 5 Returning Defensive Players back. they are in a tough district with Blair Oaks.

Class 4

Hannibal- One of the top teams in Class 4. they've have to get past West Plains or Carl Junction in the Quarterfinals.

I'm all in on Bowling Green. Their schedule (and how they're running through it so far) bodes well for them come playoff time. Like @Wheels 1 said, their depth may be a concern. We'll know even more about them after Mark Twain and Cardinal Ritter, and when they probably run up against Hallsville in districts.

Monroe City is a given. They will make a deep run again.

Highland is also legit. They should have fun evening up a few scores in the CCC this year probably up to the last game of the season when they host Monroe City which could be for the conference title. After that, they have Westran and Marceline in their district to contend with.

Noticed Marceline traveled to Quincy Notre Dame tonight. Why? They got destroyed which anyone should have seen coming. How did this mismatch get scheduled?

I would assume Knox going 8 man left an opening. Have no business playing them.

i agree. only teams Quincy Notre Dame should be playing in state of missouri is hannibal or Private schools in St. Louis. Hannibal use to play Quincy Notre Dame every year but haven't played in the past 5years. Illionis pushed back start of football season at the end of august in 2018 so hannibal had Scheduling conflicts with Notre Dame. since 2019 Missouri pushed back start of football at the end of month as the same illionis schools play. i hope Hannibal gets Quincy Notre Dame back on the Schedule

As long as I don’t have to watch another Hannibal MICDS quarter final I’ll be fine, those games are too close for me, and this year I would put my money on Hannibal

yea them MICDS and Hannibal are always Close. looks like Hannibal vs West Plains or Carl Junction in the Quarterfinals this year

I would not count out Palmyra just yet. They have their starting QB back and he had 250 total yards and 5 tds against Macon.

Don't know if this says more about Palmyra or Macon to be honest. Macon has some really good players but is hurting in the trenches. Had no business being ranked.

I'm thinking we'll find out this week if Highland is for real when they host Macon. I fully expect this to be a much closer battle for the Cougars than their first three contests.

Who is it that Bowling Green plays that will prepare them for the playoffs?

Also, if you read into my comments that Bowling Green is a threat to Lamar you are mistaken. I still feel it's Lamar's class to lose. I'm just very impressed (as should everyone be) with them. That's a damn good back they have.

There’s nothing wrong with being excited about other class 2 teams. Yay because there’s a favorite doesn’t mean there’s not other things to be pumped about.

here is a take on Bowling Green, Mark twain, Hannibal, and Highland success over the past couple weeks

Yore trying too hard.
And I'm right on the competition level. I was trying to be nice about it, but you insist. They'll play nobody in northeast Missouri that will do shit to prepare them to play the better Class 2 teams in the state.

First, Palmyra has been a Final 4 to championship caliber team the past 4 or so seasons. You can't deny that. Mark Twain is a good team this year. How good? Nobody really knows. Cardinal Ritter had been a football factory for several years. Not Bowling Green's fault scandal robbed them of a sterner test.

Second and more importantly what flippin difference does it make who anybody plays in the regular season? There's tons of examples of teams making deep runs from lesser conferences, especially in the bottom two classes. Confluences of talant ebb and flow at that level for the most part. Nothing wrong with noting and celebrating that.

Sounds like to me some rando Lamar fan is concerned their precious Tigers are getting less publicity and therefore are wronged somehow. Feel free to start your own thread if so.

Sam Stone is not a Lamar fan. He’s just not for the teams in this thread.

There is no Final Four in football. There are 4 semifinalists, which means that quite often teams come from a "quadrant" of the bracket that is weak. Thus is usually the case with all teams from northeast MO above Class 1. I know there have been exceptions, like Clark County a decade or so ago. But not many others in the last 25-30 years. Declining population often means declining programs. It's nobody's fault.
There are going to be teams in the quarterfinals and semifinals that aren't among the top 5 teams in another quadrant.
I'm not the one that brought up regular season schedule as it pertains to level of competition. You did that. No doubt that challenging games make teams better. I have a hard time thinking that Mark Twain and Palmyra are going to do anything to better prepare Bowling Green for the postseason than any other teams' level of competition. When compared to Lamar, Maryville, Richmond, and maybe even Hallsville, they don't play tough competition.
Not a Lamar fan, but I respect them. Just a fan of good football and playoff football. And I'd be happy as a lark if Bowling Green wins Class 2. I always like new blood.

I'm confused. They don't get out of districts 3 of the last four years, and last year make a semifinal appearance and they are a championship caliber team those years? Not even close. It could be argued, though still unsuccessfully that Clark County had championship caliber teams, but they never made it past the semi's.

No offense but there is talk of Palmyra and other NE teams every year, and every year they fall way short. With the exception of a couple STL teams, and Malden a few years before that, it has been a NW and SW show in class 2. I predict this year to be no different.

Hold up. If there are 4 teams left, does that not make it the final 4?

We'll see very early on if they are playoff ready as they are in Hallsville's district since you seem at least lukewarm to them. They do have Blair Oaks on their schedule at least. Oh, and Palmyra as well who they seemed to have a tad more trouble with than Bowling Green did already this season.

You're right in a sense that NEMO is the weaker of the 4 state quadrants most years. However Centralia produced arguably the best Class 2 team ever in 2002. Clark County in 2008 as you mentioned were no joke. The 'district of death' years in 2010 and 2011 had 3 really good undefeated teams, and the 2010 Macon team gave that powerhouse Penney team their only stern test in the semi's, as well as a slobberknocker game at Blair Oaks in the quarterfinals the next year. Already touched on Palmyra here recently but that doesn't impress you. All those teams didn't get much exposure to top level competition until the playoffs began and yet won titles or got close in spite of that. Oh, I'm very well aware of how playoff formats work in football, but thanks for spelling it out chief.

I'll leave you with this. While NEMO teams might not consistently be on par with the rest of the state, in any given year they can produce great teams. Bowling Green early on this year has some of those characteristics, which is why they were mentioned in the OP. They did something they haven't done in a looooong time in defeating (soundly) a CCC team. May not mean much to you, but those that follow this area closely have taken notice.

I've done a lot of things for this site over the years and had a ton of fun doing them most notably the playoff points system statewide the year before they went live. It's no longer fun anymore. Too many jackasses wanting to pick apart every word of a post instead of accepting anothers opinion for what it is. I hate that this good thread idea has devolved how it has and I apologize for my part in that. This site probably isn't long for this world anyway since it hasn't been touched this season in any meaningful way and many sites like it across the network of which I've been on more than a few are already folding with the launch of On3. I'll miss the vast majority of the small active pool of posters here. It's been a (mostly) grand time, but I'll bow out here.

I'm backing my statement after tonight. 5 Northeast teams left. North Shelby 8-Man, Monroe City, Bowling Green, Mexico and Hannibal. Bowling Green has the highest Chance to make the Championship game, then North Shelby, Hannibal, Monroe City and Mexico.

And TROY won as well! Beat Howell 23-21 on a 9 yd TD pass on the last play of the game! AVENGED a regular season loss to them when they won 41-38 scoring on the last play of the game. Troy was 0-23 vs Howell going into tonight!
