Ireland set to decriminalize heroin, cocaine, marijuana.

Agree or disagree ?

Shades of grey to me agreeing. I understand what they're attempting to accomplish, and it's still illegal to manufacture, distribute, or profit from these drugs, ultimately its an individual liberty issue. The UN has urged all member nations to do the same thing.

I've seen people use cocain and had a buddy that went through five years of heroin addiction. Good luck Ireland.

They are all drugs just like all the prescription drug abuse. Some very dangerous and habit forming some not so much. By legalizing you take the criminal element out of it or at least lower the chance of it. Tough call but if you truly believe in keeping the government out of people's lives then this is not such a stretch. I have always said that if you live in a country where alcohol is legal then you have little standing saying other drugs can't be. Alcohol ruins lives every day!

Yes it does. A lot of addictions not related to drugs do as well.

I'm curious to see what our resident vocal libertarian has to say about this.

Just remember, at some point meth and heroin addicts were somebodies baby. They aren't all coming from broken homes.

I would almost agree with legalizing the use of drugs. It does little to no good to lock simple users up.

If the trade off was life in prison for anyone caught manufacturing , moving, or selling any illegal drug.

That's the trade off, they aren't legalizing anything, just decriminalizing possession. I would hope they enforce even more strict punishments for manufacturing, distribution, or profiting from drugs.

How the heck could go to an injection room and shoot up if they're not legalizing the stuff you shoot up. Even they don't arrest you fro having the stuff they should at least take it away from you and ask who you got it from.

If legalized I would think that our great capitalistic nation would see a way to make a profit and thus relegate underground traffic which in turn should eliminate underground sales. Not to mention the government can get highly involved UgHHH. Today Chris Christy went on a rant about a good friend of his ( I Think) dying from drugs (Percicit and alcohol) Ranting against street drugs but not mentioning any solution to alcohol or prescriptions drugs. Prescribtion drugs have become big business in the underground world.

I always find it silly when someone says it would eliminate the criminal element. Drug addicts commit crimes every day to support their habits. Do you think they are gonna get wealthy enough to support their habits because it's legal? Legalization will make more addicts to steal to provide for their needs

Again, there is a huge difference between legalization and decriminalization.

You are right Miller eliminate is the wrong word. Push them further underground. No easy answer but the war on drugs has been a lost cause, time for a new approach. I have no idea what that would be.
