What are some cool places everyone’s been in reference to sports. Doesn’t have to be a venue necessarily.
Here are some of mine:

NFL Hall of Fame(Canton, OH)
Fawcett Stadium(now known as Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium) Canton, OH

Stadium sits right next to the Hall of Fame.
Seats 23,000
Current home of Canton-McKinley High and Walsh College football

Paul Brown Tiger Stadium(Massillon, OH)
Seats 16,392
Home to Massillon-Washington Tigers(rivals of Canton-McKinley) and subject of the 2001 documentary Go Tigers!
this was one of my favorites to explore.

Ratliff Stadium (Odessa, TX)
Seats 19,302
Home to Permian High Panthers(subject of book and movie Friday Night Lights)
As well as the Odessa High Bronchos and
UT-Permian Basin Falcons

Union-Tuttle Stadium(Tulsa, OK)
I visited before they tore it down a few years back to build the new one.
originally built in 1976 for 1.7 million
Home to Union High of Tulsa
Seated 11,000 at the time that I visited which was around 2013-2014

Hoosier Gym(Knightstown, IN)
Was the filming location for the home games of the fictional Hickory Huskers of the classic movie titled simply “Hoosiers”
I visited this place last July, got a tour and some photos and got to shoot around.
they’ve restored the gym to exactly how it was during the filming of the movie in 1985-86 with a few changes.
I also learned that their schedule is almost full during basketball season. Apparently high schools from all across the state will pay to play a game there.
they also have their own high school all star game that is hosted in the gym.

Memorial Fountain at Marshall University (Huntington, WV)
Built in memory of the 1970 Thundering Herd that sadly passed away in the plane crash. Was passing through and figured I would stop by. It was neat to see.

I’m sure there are a few that I’ve visited that have slipped my mind but that’s what I’ve got for now.

Let's see, back in the spring of 1987 a couple of friends and I snook into the football stadium and onto the field at K State. Then later that day we snook into the basketball arena and down on the court and ran around till security ran after us.

Gotta go close to home and old school. When I was 10 my brother who was 15 snuck us down onto the field at Faurot Field when the Tigers were playing Wisconsin. We had general admin tickets on the hill. How we got down there I will never know but suffice it to say security wasn’t what it is nowadays. As we sat on the sideline of the north endzone Henry Marshall caught a TD pass and ran right by us. Still a memory burned into my mind hopefully forever. Miss those days. Spouse and I made a dream trip to the Rose Bowl game a few years ago. Bucket list thing and very cool.

Bellerive to watch Tiger in 2018. Dodger Stadium to watch the Redbirds beat the Doyers was pretty cool. Had anniversary dinner at Pebble Beach overlooking the 18th green.

I’ve been to Pebble Beach when I was stationed out that way years and years ago. It’s beautiful.
that whole area of California is definitely a sight to see. Not much of a SoCal fan though to be honest.

Augusta National Golf Club
I was there April 14, 2019 to see Tiger win his 15th major. TV doesn’t do the course justice.
Lets see, GA, all I can think of is red clay and sand and swamps and wait-a-minute vines and maneuvers on along and across the Chattahoochee. A place referred to as Fort Benning, home of the infantry.

Took the tour of Lambeau Field back in 1998 and just prior to the big renovation. I was in Oshkosh that year for the air show with other family members, and they went along with my wishes to drive on up to the bay. Very cool experience. Also in the same vicinity of time, a colleague and I drove a track athlete of ours up to a camp at KU, and while waiting, we took a nice walk around Phog Allen, even along the court. More recently, my son and I enjoyed the tour and batting cages at the Louisville Slugger Musuem. While you're in that town, you need to at least drive by Churchill Downs. It is in a totally different kind of location than one would expect.

Of all the neat events I have been to (superbowl, final 4, playoff games) the Kentucky Derby was by far my favorite. Was like you in thinking it would be in the midst of a high society area, very far from the truth. Was the all-time people watching specticle that I have ever attended. You would have a guy who hadn't showered in a week walking right behind Billy Gibbon, then Kid Rock goes by, a dude selling pirated t-shirts, then the Manning family walks through. Unreal. then the scene in the infield, holy cow.

The Big House in Ann Arbor for homecoming. 1112,000 fans, biggest homecoming crowd that they'd ever had up to that point. It was both unbelievably awesome and extremely underwhelming. Awesome because of the number of people all in one place, underwhelming because, even though it was a huge comeback win for the Wolverines, it was maybe the most polite and quiet 112,000 people ever, even when at full volume following big plays. I think it must be because of the shape of the place; there's nearly nothing to bounce the sound back.

Some of the most beautiful scenery is out there. Absolutely worth going too. I was like a kid in a candy store at Pebble, that was awesome. I’m a big fan of San Diego. We’ll be out there for our anniversary this year. If we could, we’d move out there in a heartbeat.

Not necessarily the venue, but the event left me feeling extremely blessed and proud. It was always on my bucket list but I had pretty much shelved any thoughts of attending until my son and son-in-laws surprised me with a trip to the Army-Navy game in Philadelphia. We stayed downtown where the sidewalks were full of cadets and midshipmen coming and going in their uniforms (all sharp looking and very polite young ladies and gentlemen). Subway ride to the stadium and exciting game but the waves of young uniformed patriots in the stadium and on the field with the plane and helicopter flyovers and I'm telling you it put a lump in my throat and a fresh resolve to fight for freedom and liberty till death even though I couldn't do it as vigorously as I once could.
W.C. Fields hated Philadelphia so much that he once remarked, "Ah yessss, I spent a week in Philadelphia one dayyyy." Nevertheless, I highly recommend that weekend experience for each and every one of you. Regardless of the quality of the game I think it will be an experience you will treasure.

I'll contribute a little. Watched a game at Fenway in 2005. Many great games in Allen Fieldhouse :). Ran at Drake Relays a couple different years, interesting to have a Track Stadium filled to capacity for Track. Raymond James Stadium and the Pirate ship was cool to watch a game there. Watched a match in Stad De France (Paris).

now San Diego I can agree with. It’s their counterpart to the north that I’m not a big fan of lol.
sounds like Torrey Pines may be calling your name while you’re out there?

From overseas. The stadium in Athens where the first modern Olympics were held and the stadium at Olympia where the original games were held. Last trip overseas, a bullfighting ring in Majorca. Would like to have seen the bar that Curt Flood ran when he lived on the island there but we were with a tour. The Barcelona games stadium where the archer shot the flaming arrow to light the flame but most impressive is the swimming/diving venue that is on a hillside and overlooks the city.
Closer to home. Clemens field in Hannibal. That baseball field was used as a German POW camp for a while in WWII. Also Roosevelt Field in Excelsior Springs. Still standing the last I knew.

  1. Old Giants stadium to see the Gents and the lackluster excuse for a team, the Jets.
  2. Old Yankee stadium. Saw the Royals play there.
  3. Old Shea stadium.
  4. T-Mobile Park in Seattle

Guess we did have an international experience back in 2018; we saw a ball game at the Rogers Centre in Toronto. The Blue Jays were playing the Orioles. Took the train from brother-in-laws place on the east side along the lake to downtown where we got off right at Union Station next door to the CN Tower and Rogers. Fun experience, and didn't have to deal with traffic up there either. The roof was open that evening.

Yeah, been to L.A. once and I'm good haha. I looked up the rates for Torrey Pines and they have the US Open on the North Course a month after we'll be there so I would have to call to book a tee time. I think that would be cool, play on a course a few weeks before a Major. Of course, I'm not sure I want to pay the 200$ greens fee but who knows.
