Does anyone think instant replay will reach the high school level? It is obviously a VERY long ways away, most colleges don't even have it, but here is a thought. As time progresses, technology is only going to get more advanced and cheaper, making it more readily available for schools to acquire. Will it one day be affordable for some larger school districts to install?

Oh I sure hope it does! Imagine if there was instant replay during the Walnut Heights game??? The review would have overturned that fumble, and it would have saved Coach Nickersons @$$!!! What a wasted opportunity.

I think it would be great for a few uses.... Case inpoint a bad pass interference call in a Jasper game this passed year... 2 refs said it wasn't but the ref across the field said it was... I'm a photographer and have the pics to prove it was offense pass interference not defensive and I heard the refs whole convo.. But you need to also have limits like the nfl. Like 1 use per team a half and if its a bad challenge you lose a timeout. And say can't take longer than 3-5 mins once the ref reaches the booth.. Anyway just my 2 cents..

Ps I don't think every penalty should be reviewable but if the refs can't all say without a doubt it should go to review imo.

Could be wrong but I "think" Belton C5 HS has it on their new scoreboard but can only use it when not a controversial call and not at all durning playoffs.

If this is wrong or incomplete please fill me in, thanks. ;)

Not really for any kind of replay in high school.... not sure something like you mention would be reviewed anyway.

Probably not but to have the farthest away ref from the play call it defensive pass interference but the 2 closest refs call it offensive and the Defensive call stood but the offensive was flushed... Its things like this that piss me off watching high school football. You'd think the majority would win out but guess not.

I'm all in on this. If a ref is found to blow a call, they will then be required to apologize into the microphone. A lucky fan will then be chosen to taser the offending zebra at midfield.

Lol I know they make mistakes but if 2 refs say this happened and 1 says this happened it should be the majority that wins not the farthest ref away from the play to win out Imo. Your post cracked me up thanks for the laugh.

I cannot ever see that happening. There is seemingly zero support for a shot clock in basketball, which is substantially less complex and expensive. Replay would require equipment, a team to run the equipment, systems, procedures and regulations. I just can't see it being rolled out statewide even in larger classes. Even if they rolled it out to just 5 and 6, what about the teams like Kearney that have moved up and back down. Would they have to implement it when moved up, only to move right back down? It just doesn't seem realistic to me. Bad calls occasionally happen and unfortunately they often cause us to lose sight of the fact that it really is just a game that kids are playing for fun.

Are there any HS in the state that use more than two cameras to film their games? Seems like you would need a minimum of 5 to make it work at the least.

The technology for instant replay is in use on most sidelines and has been for the past 5 years. All is needed is a few more cameras. Endzone and sideline angles would not be enough. FYI, this year, I can see the play on my IPAD as it happens, The past 6 years we've had delayed viewing ( less than a minute).
At the end of the day, I'm in favor of never doing it.

Been to a few Webb games and they have at least 5 cameras. Not to mention a whole production crew that would rival most colleges. Shoot they even film the youth games and then break it down during the games.

Wide angle, tight angle, endzone, sideline tight, sideline wide. Seems like overkill for an offense invented by Bill Yeoman. I imagine the DC is the driving force.

Lol. I think its for the viewing pleasure of the audience on the jumbotron. Webb has a top notch multimedia program and the multimedia students film and run the big board . The team only really uses the end zone and wide sideline angles

It could have changed but last wc game I went to, they only used the video board for playing announcement videos and commercials. During the game it was more or less used like a regular scoreboard, except harder to see. I can't think of any other high school i've been to that has one so I don't know if other schools use them in more interesting ways, like replay, crowd games, live game stats, other coc scores, etc - or if that is generally beyond the means and capabilities of a high school. It just seemed like the video board at WC was kind of underutilized, but it was also pretty new when I was there so they may have not really worked out the kinks yet.

I don't think they are allowed to show replays per MSHAA. Don't want to show up the refs or something ? I not sure what the logic was but was told that they can't do it
