Listen, as much as I hate this, a school like Warrenton has earned this. They pay no attention to sports. Dont care if they win. Dont care who coaches. If your kid was a math prodigy you’d leave there immediately if they cared that little about math. You shouldn’t have to play for a literal idiot just because your address says so. Screw that. The rich get richer. Quite a system we have.
I don’t know the coach or anything about him. It is wild that two kids can leave and go to private schools, get recruited and leave that is. MSHSAA is more worried about fall athletes attending open gym than the private schools recruiting. MSHSAA is crap.
If the kid moves before 9th grade MSHSAA has no jurisdiction.I believe with the transfer rule, the school losing the player must file the complaint to start the process.
Still it seems that very few kids sit out for 365 days anymore. Very hard to prove a move to a private school is for athletic reasons, and not religious and educational. The one I shake my head at is when dad rents an apartment in a nearby school district for a legal address.
So everyone can recruit legally until 9th grade? If the kid moves before 9th grade MSHSAA has no jurisdiction.
Is Greg Williams the girls coach at Warrenton?Listen, as much as I hate this, a school like Warrenton has earned this. They pay no attention to sports. Dont care if they win. Dont care who coaches. That's nowhere close to accurate. MSHSAA has rules about contact with JH players outside the district. Are they followed or policed? Now, that's a different story.Pretty much.
Coach Williams is a good coach. His teams play with an edge and he gets the most out of his players. I was going to say the same thing. There are definitely rules about contact with middle school players outside of your district, even if they live in the same city or go to a K-8 where most students go to your school in high school. If they are in a different school district you cannot have contact with them or have them at open gyms at your school. The only thing they are allowed to do is attend summer camps. Meanwhile, private schools are coaching their kids on "AAU" teams and recruiting. I wouldn't mind so much if public schools were allowed to openly recruit. Instead they can either follow the rules to the letter or try to sneakily recruit players while still giving themselves enough room to deny any allegations. That's nowhere close to accurate. This...If it's the Greg Williams that was at Owensville and Bowling Green, he's as good as they get. Dude can flat coach. He's the type that could beat yours with his then turn around and beat his with yours. He's not an a$$ kisser or social media darling, so that probably hurts him. I've got a daughter, and I'd be thrilled if Greg were her coach. I often agree with Bald, but he's way off on this one.Coach Williams is a good coach. Well to go to a private school that recruits you you don’t have to move you can just go. To go to public school you have to physically live in the school district. There’s a big difference between parents sending their kids to a private school with a commute and parents having to sell their house and physically move so their kid can go to a public school.I don't know why everyone gets so upset with MSHSAA. If a student athlete and their family decide to transfer schools/move then that family believes it's what's best for their child and family. I've talked to people in other states and it's the same situation, lot of movement and only in extreme cases an athlete has to sit out.
And yes, you can recruit incoming freshman. Private schools recruit non-athletes also. If you are a great at the trombone and a private school has a great band, then why not go to that private school over another private school that has an average band and terrible band teacher? Same thing with academics.
I wasn’t speaking about the coach. I played hundreds of pickup games with him while we were both at SMS. I consider him a friend, and have for 30 years. Ask him about his administration support. Or community support. It’s a coaching graveyard. I can’t think of a single district that has a reputation as bad as that one. Well, maybe Lebanon. If my post in any way smeared him, I wholeheartedly apologize.Coach Williams is a good coach. His teams play with an edge and he gets the most out of his players. No reason to be a keyboard warrior.
