In season coaching changes and Retirement announcements and how they effect the season?

I once had a friend who tried to “inspire” his team by telling them after week 9 that he would be no longer coaching at season’s end.
It backfired on him. They were distracted and in disarray. The game was a disaster.

I really think is situational... With the controversy surrounding an NFL coach letting him go after an 0-5 start not a big deal. At the high school and probably college level it could go either way. If a coach is bad for a program and it is well documented it could be the change a team needs to become successful. It is one of those calls that can either make or break a season and glad I won't ever have to make that call.

I knew when I moved to monett in the 7th grade in 2004 that coach spencer would be retiring my sr year! His son was in my class and even said his dad would retire from football when he graduates. It was a well known thing that no one talked about. It didn’t have one effect on me or my teammates. Coach spencer went 28-5 over his last three years! And I’m biased but still think we should have won state in 08! Just depends on the situation IMO

I was always told, from the day he was hired he told everybody that he would retire that year.
