In less than a week Trump has broken the law twice.

When he said he had gotten calls from China trying to jump start trade talks it was not true. According to his own people he did it to try to "boost the markets." It is illegal to say things that are not true in order to boost the markets.
He also held up a hurricane tracking map with the National Hurricane Center logo on it but had an extra line drawn on it to include Alabama that showed the this hurricane was headed there. The Hurricane Center put out a notice that the track Trump showed was NOT accurate and the hurricane will stay too far east to have any affect on Alabama. It is also illegal to put out false weather information. Trumpy Bear is on a roll!

Coming from me or you me probably not so much, but a president has the power to move the markets, whether he's lying or telling the truth. And we all know how much trouble Trump has with the truth. The answer is pretty obviously no.

I mean, I don't really care about the crime commentary (he's never going to be charged) but it deluded and insane for the President to tweet lies to try to prop up the stock market for one day. The credibility of the President and the White House are important. This White House has none because it consistently does nonsense like this.

It's also an insanely silly strategy: who on earth cares if the markets go up for 1 day, especially when the story will come out in a day or two that it was nonsense? Why not just wait until something actually happens that is productive?

It gets back to the #1 or #2 problem with the President: you can't trust anything he says on substantive matters, which is a disastrous thing to be true in the event of a crisis.

It's one thing for a president to be political, or even to be wrong. It's another for them to be allergic to reality. You can't have confidence that this White House is telling you the truth about basically anything when it comes from the President. It's not that he is always lying, but you want your President to get the benefit of the doubt on matters of national importance like substantive negotiations with our #1 trading partner.

It does long term damage to the office that doesn't disappear when he leaves. Some people will assume his successor lies the way he does.

I have seen no reason to believe it happened otherwise. It may or may not have but you only assume it didn't because you don't trust him. I don't really either (every politician can't be trusted) but I can't assume it was a lie and the fact there have been meetings set up tells me there was truth in the statement.

But that track was LAST Thursday, his tweet was on Sunday after the track had changed dramatically. It's not a big deal except that he just can't stand to be wrong and won't let it go. He has a LOT more important stuff to be thinking about than adding a line on that map to show it going to Alabama. This is just plain sad! And it IS against federal law to misrepresent a such a forecast. Like I said if these things were done by me or you no one would really care but this is the freaking POTUS!!
