TREMENDOUS list that brings back a lot of memories! My favorite memory between two of these was Marshall and Camdenton's 20-20 tie at Arrowhead in 1986. Hated the fact MSHSAA didn't have OT but what a game that was!

In a few years Bailey might bump someone but as of today IMO:

Rodrique
Adkins
Severino
Shore
Bailey would have to keep on the current pace for another decade or so to even begin discussion about bumping anyone from that list of four coaches

Adkins beyond any doubt is easily top of that list for now with 405 career wins. JRod needs another decade plus to have any chance of reaching 400+ and consideration for that discussion of top all time but definitely in top four

Coach A: has 91.9% win pct and 11 titles (at least 2/3 of those wins against schools with higher enrollment)
Coach B: has 86.8% win pct and 8 titles

There is plenty of doubt who tops that list...

I don’t think Nick Saban needs as many career wins as Joe Paterno to be the top coach. Both are legends. Just as coach A & B are.

Not saying John can’t take the spot eventually and arguably may already be there. One of the most unassuming people I know. He would likely defer to any of the other 3 on that list at present

Everyone loves to discuss these things. And have their own opnions. But Bailey isn’t very far off. Just based on his ring count he’s not far off. He’s turned around one of the worst programs in the state. Lamar was a laughing stock before his tenure. Sure maybe it’s still insane to argue top 5? But he’s on a list of top 10 for sure.

He wouldn’t put himself anywhere in that group. Absolutely agree he is very modest.

My point is if you have 11 championships you are there already.

I forgot to adjust Tony Severino's win total before I posted it earlier. He is currently (398-107-1) with on game remaining this season. That puts him 2nd in all-time wins behind Pete Adkins.

Lawrence Walls- Sumner 4 titles in 9 apprearances.

Bob Shore- Camdenton 4 titles in 6 appearance.

Pete Adkins- Jeffereson City 8 titles in 9 appearances.

Ron Holtman- SLCDS/MICDS 7 titles in 9 appearances.

John Rodrique- Webb City 11 titles in 13 appearances.

Tony Severino- Rockhurst 8 titles in 13 appearances.

Scott Bailey- Lamar 7 titles in 7 appearances.

Gil Rector- Lexington 5 titles in 5 appearances.

Bob Fairchild- Chillicothe 5 titles in 7 appearances.

Fred Bouchard- Harrisonville/Staley 5 titles in 6 appearances.

Dewey Combs- Parkwood 3 titles in 4 appearances.

Steve Hancock reached 304 wins this year, is only coach in Missouri to have district titles in class 2,3,4,and 5. Stockton, Branson, and Spfg Catholic. No state titles, 2 2nd place finishes, numerous semi appearances. So much more than winning defines a coach. Being to transition from the 70's coaching atmosphere to the current atmosphere is challenging. Many great coaches in Missouri history.

Yes, he was at harrisonville before he came to Stockton in 1977. We practiced at harrisonville before our quarterfinal game at Cass Midway in 1979. That been many moons ago.

I'm going old school Mount Rushmore with (in no particular order) Pete Adkins, Bob Fairchild, Gil Rector, Bob Shore. I've interviewed two of these guys on a regular basis in the past. and Bob Shore made the list over others due to his team being a thorn in the play-off side of Chillicothe

All the respect for Coach Hancock but Stockton had 31 winning seasons in a weak conference in which their only real success was in 85 and 86 when they reached the final 4. Every other year they would dominate a weak conference and lose when played quality programs in sectionals or possibly quarterfinals. Coach hancocks best success in wins came in Branson early in the 90’s when they played for state championships and were within reach. However, there is more to a successful coach than wins, such as character integrity and honor, in which Coach Hancock is an example of.

Vic Bonuchi - Five undefeated teams from 1964 to 1970. Took a break from coaching football from 1973 to 1988. Then two state titles: 94' and 96'

Some Dudes on that list!

The first thing I see that is becoming a thing of the past are coaches that stay in one spot for a long time. I know there are a couple on that list still coachingin their respective schools, but the 20-30 year coach in one spot is rare! Congratulations to them!

The number of wins are great, and the state titles as well, but I believe you get to see how successful a coach is when he leaves a school that he was successful at and can replicate that again elsewhere. Of that list only one coach has won state titles at two different schools. I know Mark Thomas is another active coach who has won titles at multiple schools. I would like to see a list of coaches in MSHSAA history who have hoisted the trophy at different schools.

I think it would be hard to narrow the successful coaches in Missouri to just 4. You have to remember this good ol boy named Jerry Kill and maybe even Kurt Thompson.

Burl Fowler who won a state title at Monett in 71 comes to mind. Who knows how many wins that man might have piled up if we had not lost him all to early to cancer.

There are several others who would be deserving who have never one a title.
