It is week 9 and you are the 6th seed? Do you play to win tonight or rest your starters so you stay clear of the top seed until the finals? Something to think about... Example... If Eldon wins, they probably move up and maybe play Blair Oaks in the 2nd round of districts?

I think you play to win and try to get home field that first week of districts, just my opinion.

As for your example: Eldon went to BO earlier this season and was in control for 3 Quarters of the game. The 4th quarter was a different story and they ended up losing, but I don't think they really "fear" going to Wardsville to play the Falcons. That district should be fun. There's a lot of teams that could win that one, should be entertaining to say the least.

Most would move up from 6th to 5th seed, so no home field advantage. Other examples would be:
Class 2:
#6 Strafford would have to play #1 Mt. View or #2 Diamond if they beat the 3rd seed.
Class 3:
Lift for Life would have to play #1 John Buroughs or #2 McCluer South the second round
St.James would have to play #1 Mt. Grove or #2 Ava in the second round
Eldorado Springs would have to play #1 Lamar or #2 Butler or Summitt the second round.
Class: 4
Warrensburg play #1 Harrisonville or #2 KC Center the second round.
I know they have to win the first round, but most cases it would be easier to go through the # 2 and 3 seeds to have a chance at the district title game. As coach, does that come into play as to resting kids that could play if it was the district tournament, but are a little banged up so you rest them.

Exactly. Play to win. For reasons of drastic mismatches, I don't like the playoff system at a all. I prefer the 10 game schedules with District Champ method used 5 years ago. I understand the logic of the current system, but feel it is a waste of time.

You owe it to the kids to do everything to win. Be pretty tough in Football probably more than any sport to say "Hey believe me, I know everyones going to get the shit knocked out of them a couple times tonight but its in our best interest to lose." Is that a serious question? I seriously would think players, parents school board etc.would want to fire a coach for something like that. The risk taken, the hard work put in and a coach on purpose throws a game, Id be mad. Is a second place trophy in high school sports worth it?
