The Associated Press college football top 25 was invented to...sell newspapers.

It was never intended to actually measure teams. Or players.

#Clickbate #NoFeelings

(Aside: Is Connor Harris still in the league? Will his state title pay him checks now?)

Why are we so bitter over this? Individual rankings and team rankings are two different things.

Why don’t you come up with a list of kids that are individually better.

It’s much easier to complain and cry about what someone else has accomplished. Maybe all those State Championships aren’t as satisfying for some fans as they claim?

Incorrect opinion isn't accomplishment. It is delusion.

An opinion can’t be incorrect. I think you’re confusing your feelings for facts. For a kid with the goal of playing football at the collegiate level, being recognized by the coaches and schools that offer those opportunities is an accomplishment. I get it, though. You wish that the kids you know from the places you like had more shine and got more offers to play at the next level. The reason why they don’t is either A) The people picking kids don’t think those kids are as good as you think they are ... or, B) Those people haven’t seen enough of those kids to be sold that they haven’t peaked at 17-18, and can be productive at the college level. You crying on your posts just makes you look jealous and petty.

38 out of 56 from St. Louis doesn't even make statistical sense AT ALL. That is my point. It is not matching up with the reality. Their system, whatever they are using is erroneous.

You forgot some options there. C) The kids coach black balls him and prevents any college from recruiting said kid. All because of a little trash that got dumped on the coaches lawn. D) The kid was a career back up, that never planned on playing at the next level. Then because of an injury to the starter, got thrust into the starting role.

Their system is based upon who they see. You posted a quote from one of the recruiting sites which explained how kids are rated and evaluated. Is your issue with the fact that college scouts and so-called “recruiting experts” haven’t tracked down kids on their own that (for whatever reason) haven’t gone to camps, visited colleges or been to showcases ... so you think it’s bogus that the kids that HAVE are now getting offers because schools know who they are? If kids want to get offers there are 2 things that HAVE to happen. The kids have to be good enough to play at the next level and they have to be seen by the people evaluating whether they’re good enough or not. The whole “If you’re good enough, they’ll find you” line rarely is the case.

Even if a kid is good enough to play at the collegiate level, that means nothing if the coach black balls him from scouts. Ive seen it happen before. All the talent in the world cant overcome that.

You’re absolutely right. No college position coach is gonna put their job and reputation on the line without an endorsement from that kid’s high school coach. There are high school coaches that WON’T help kids with colleges because they don’t think it’s their job to do it. If taking the time to get the handful of kids on your team in front of colleges meant that it’d upset the bulk of your team that DOESN’T have the talent to play at the next level and make it more difficult to maintain “team culture” and win that State Championship ... then why do it? For a program that wins regularly at the high school level, and THAT is what keeps the head coach employed ... why would they rock the boat and focus effort of getting 2-4 kids scholarships to college?

I concur! Unless, the coach doing the black balling is planning on leaving the entire time. So he black balls his best athletes from all colleges. Then, to appear as if he is making things right, he offers scholarships to those players from the college he ran off to. Its actually a brilliant way for a new college coach to build a team. Crazy, after all these years, that thought never dawned on me.

Your example is pretty extreme, but I suppose it’s possible. Maybe you’re referring to a specific coach? I agree that coaches sometimes throw shade at high school kids to colleges.

I am referring to a specific coach. It was Coach Nickerson. The former head coach at Ampipe High school. He went on to have a pretty successful coaching career actually.

Almost half of the NFL players from Missouri are from STL. You need to get over it. Individual rakings mean nothing. I team full of D2 talent will be a team with just on D-1 guy almost every time. The best running back in the NFL lost to Maryville. Who has Maryville put in the league?
