to STOP sliding to catch a ball. If Pham would have just kept running and turned his glove over like it should be he would have caught the ball in LF today. Instead he ran in, slid and turned his glove backwards so he got it on the short hop. There was no one near him and he was not close a to wall, those are the only reasons to slide when catching a line drive or fly ball.
