I tried to warn you….

I remember in the '70s it was common practice in some places for many young adults in trouble with the law for petty nonviolent crimes to be given the option of enlisting in the service in exchange for charges being dropped. I know a couple guys who did this and it straightened them out, and they never got in trouble with the law again.

I don't think this is done anymore. Teenagers make dumb decisions and get in trouble before they have grown up, but now we can't wait to give them a criminal record that haunts them the rest of their lives when all some of them need is some discipline, structure, and a chance to mature some.

The "all volunteer army" that started in 1972 was an abysmal failure.

When you have leaders or leadership that is to cowardly themselves to enlist or use excuses such and bone spurs to avoid enlisting, then why would the common man or woman want to serve...especially if serving under cowards who would not serve themselves? They now see other easier paths to leadership.

There was a time many of our politician rose from the ranks of our military, people saw that as a path to respectability.. not so much anymore.
