I thought Glendale was unstoppable, Glendale silent.

Glendale's stars this year were primarily juniors, so they will be good next year. A couple of years Coach Ben Mauk took over, and they have made steady progress. His first year they won two games, his second year they won four, and this year they won 11.

His older son Ben Mauk was the better quarterback of his two sons I believe. He started at Wake Forest early in his college career as a freshman and also as a sophomore and junior until a a shoulder injury, three different injuries to his shoulder and arm on the same play. When he was down, wake forest replaced and then he transferred to Cincinnati and led them to a 10-3 record that year as a senior as well as a 10-point win in their bowl game.

I think there's still a big difference in the best football in KC, StL, and Central MO and then the football played in Springfield. Friday night was a great example of that as was any number of SPS-Jeff City games in the 80's & 90's, Kickapoo-Rockhurst games during the 2000's, etc. Defense seems to be where Springfield teams are behind the curve. Hit the weight room and get better! That's all you can do. At least Glendale won't have to worry about its offense for a while.

Still, the best team in school history (54 years) and those kids should never forget that accomplishment.

You might have heard of Coach Mauk's son, Maty Mauk. If Mauk stays at Glendale for several more years he will have them in the state championship game.
They're not going to win a MO class 5 state title playing 7-on-7 in shells. They may be able to run up the score against Rolla & Parkview doing that, but they're going to have to sack up to go deeper in the playoffs against quality class 5 programs IMO.

I wouldn't bank on that statement. Mauk made a living doing that with high school football in Ohio, and it's safe to say that the teams and athletes that come out of that state are quite a bit better from class to class compared to Missouri. With the exception of a few of our traditional powerhouses of course.

I'd be just fine going 9-0 in the OC (BEATING KICKAPOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and trying for a Class 5 berth every season versus the recent history of Glendale football. Outside of that, it depends on the luck of the draw, injuries and the desire/passion of the individual players to want to win it all.
