Protect qb rules. Dr is on ground trying to get to qb, grab a his leg and its roughing passer. Guess dl is supposed to just quit n let QB throw. Flag time for QB, wow. I know some of u probably like rule.

You misspelled capitalism. The NFL is just protecting their revenue generators.
I am not a fan of the new rule but PM had full D Lineman weight landed on him 3 times in the Chief’s game and never called. He is about as big of a revenue generator as there is in the league right now.

For those that don't understand how much football has changed, and how much better it used to be...just watch this game. Just click through and watch it on youtube:

Absolutely!
I started yelling 'just put a skirt on em' a few years ago.
I feel the same way with pass interference.
No consistency.
One minute you can crawl onto someone's shoulders and wave to your Mom at home and get no flag .... the next minute if a receiver's name crosses your mind it's a game-changing penalty.

Some of the calls I saw during games made me wonder had the Refs bet on different teams? It was like oh no you didn't just hurt my chance of influencing the outcome of this game, I will show you by throwing a flag the next play and nullifying your call.

You can yell put a skirt on them and you can dream of yesteryear but have you seen some of the old time players try to walk out to midfield or enunciate their thoughts?
Aint pretty.
This thread is only talking about the rules that protect the quarterback; why should the quarterback be more protected from infirmities later in life than any other position on the field?

You look at some tackles being made and it does look like an effort to hurt players in the NFL. I have always thought when I saw a 350 pound lineman drive a QB into the ground with all their weight that it was a bit excessive. I also think you need to protect a QB's knees in some form, I think yesterday when I saw the play in question it could have been just a bit ridiculous. But remember the sport is under attack...

Idk how many 350 lb D-lineman are out there...but just off the top of my head...Rothlisberger, Newton, Winston, Wentz, Prescott...have all got to be in the 230-260 lb range. Not all QBs are created equal. It's sorta like the philosophy on it being just dead wrong to hit a woman because she's a woman. What if Rhonda Rousey is the woman I hit? Still apply? Because that's not going to go well for me. Sorta like if a D-lineman tries to lightly tackle Newton in the same fashion one would lay Brees on the ground.

For the record...my belief is it's not okay for people to hit other people.

JN that was a great game, even though I am a Cowboys fan, yes ridicule me, it was a different time but it seems the pendulum has swung too far to protect some positions and enhance parts of the game. The call in the Cowboys game yesterday the dl was slipped getting around the OT, fell to the ground and grabbed the qb's leg. He didn't intentionally dive into his legs, he kept doing his job to get to the qb on a pass play. Just rubs me wrong, but Duck my question is, "Do these men voluntarily play this game knowing injury is possible?" Do you think Butkus, Lambert, Singletary ect would not play the game if they had it to do over? I'm not saying it is not hard to watch Earl Campbell, one of my favorite rb's, walk. But in the end they all choose to play, just like race car drivers choose to get in a vehicle going very fast that runs into walls. Heck we get in cars everyday with the chance of severe injury or death. Just my thoughts.

I don't disagree totally with you on that point. However I saw a few tackles of the Ravens on Mahomes were it "seemed" like they were trying to drive home some pain. And we are not to many years removed from "bountygate" in the NFL so don't tell me that all tackles are created equal either and with all the film I have seen on players like Ndamukong Suh I know dirty play and tackles happens in the NFL. Yes I know I get the this is the NFL tough guy bow out your chest crap and this if football, well if we continue to turn a blind eye to real dirty play, I fear someday there may not be football.

As for hitting a woman you are not going to see a bully go out and attack a woman like Rhonda Rousey. And those are the type of guy that will hit a woman. And history proves bullies will not pick on those who they fear will fight back be it man or woman. A bully usually knows the outcome before they engage in a fight.

Okay ... I vote yes on no one touching the QB and no one touching the receivers ... IF THEY CAN MAKE THOSE CALLS WITH ANY, ANY, ANY, ANY CONSISTENCY!!!! I think it just sucks 1000% worse because there is just so much randomness.

I have this discussion with my two sons in their 20’s. They claim Brady is the GOAT. I always say, “Brady is good ... very good. But rules protecting him from hits, allowing his linemen to use their hands and 5-yard chucking rules on receivers are much more conducive to gawdy numbers than, say, when Johnny U. played. If you could put Unitas in today’s rules (in his prime), and put Brady in the old rules, both of their numbers would look a lot different. In fact, you might be saying that Johnny U. is the GOAT.” That’s when the eye-rolling starts.

Honestly, regarding consistency, I think instant replay has created more problems than it has solved.
