for next year. The players make enough bad base running decisions without a coach sending guys home when have NO chance to score.

Its hard to believe one coach can make so much difference but I think Oquendo is being missed severely. He was always a stickler for fundamentals. Both defensively and on the bases. Both of those areas are as bad as I can remember a Card team being in a long time. Is it just a coincidence that this is the first year he's missed in a long time?

Oquendo, who is the infield coach as well, as been severely missed all around. There was a reason he was called the manager in waiting while under LaRussa. He is about a baseball savy as it gets and the Cards are definitely better with him. I think they would be the clear favorite in the Wild Card if he was still coaching. Probably 84-85 wins, maybe more.

I don't think it's a coincidence at all. More curious to me is...Why isn't he back by now? Why all the questions if he'll return next season? There's something more to this knew replacement and being out all year.

Jose has said before that eventually he would like to be a minor league instructor in FL. I think he lives there full time now. He didn't want to have a token role on the bench while he was rehabbing which was estimated at 6 months from surgery which happened in May. If he can't be hands on he's not interested. It'll be interesting to see if he returns to the big club next year or just stays at home teaching the youngsters. I'd rather he be helping the players on the big club. We don't need him helping minor leaguers who then get traded to the competition. Lol.

They said something the other day about 2 knee surgeries. Did you guys here McCarver say the other day that Oqeundo told him Pujols NEVER ran through stop sign at 3rd? He said he was showing the stop sign but telling him to go, go, go.

Didn't hear that, but have heard that before. Remember seeing it on a few replays too, and they talked about it during the game.
