I get that, I was wondering if they're "supposed" to start that early this year? Pretty sure the guy that told knew what he was talking about but I haven't heard it anywhere else. The only sure thing is death and taxes. I have a feeling this year will be a day to day thing and it will be interesting when one school had someone that tested positive play another school.
NJCAA says basketball will not start the season until January with National Tourney in April. Possibility of no HS prelim games either. Apparently as it stands now fall sports will go ahead as usual, fall baseball, softball and volleyball is on for now. I don't guess I get the issue with HS prelim games if HS ball is being played as usual. 3R has several of them every season and the kids and their fans seem to like it.The guidance is to start earlier and have a longer Christmas break, assuming it will be more prevalent in colder weather. Not sure why they think they can outsmart the virus, and besides that they will be playing most of the winter anyway. College has been creeping backwards on the schedule for years, better idea would be to start after Thanksgiving, gives more time to figure things out and delay then if necessary. No point in stuffing more into what is already supposed to be a busier than normal October. But $$$ I guess.

I don't think the number of HS fans that stay for Raider games makes much difference. I would guess crowds will be down most places anyway. A big part of our fan base is at least as old as me if not older. We'll see how many turn out this year. Our place has only been near capacity a few of times and the girl's playoff games did that a time or two. I haven't seen any other teams that fill their gym with half the seating we have now except when 3R comes to town. I guess the other sports, except for VB, being outdoors figures into that decision. Probably not too much over crowding for the VB games.Eliminating the HS prelim games is probably done primarily to free up as much logistical wiggle room as possible. There will be a whole new approach to filling out the schedule with the abbreviated time frame. It will be tougher to work in non-NJCAA schools(preps and JVs) in the shorter time window, especially if those programs have no intentions of altering their season......
They also might be doing it as a measure of crowd control as well......

Fall baseball and softball have their practice season in the fall and and so far will be allowed to have 5 scrimmage dates. That can be any number of games per date, usually 3 or 4 with some against D-1 and D-2 teams so I don't know how that will shake out either. Pretty much their usual fall season. Here's the official NJCAA release on what sports will be played when. Cross country is about the only sport that will happen before January. Division 3 tennis is the other one. All other fall and winter sports will not start until the spring semester.
