I guess I have to watch Frontline tonight

Depressing and sobering. A reminder of the opportunities we missed at the beginning of the events but also the complete lack of good choices available to us right now.

You can watch it online for free at the frontline website anytime. So you didn't miss it yet.

Defense Department head came out this week and stated that Iraqi army is unwilling to fight. They fleed when ISIS attacked leaving heavy armor and tanks, supplied by US, and into the hands of ISIS. Why not eliminate the middle man and ship our arms directly to ISIS. I have a HUGE problem with our involvement if Iraqis are unwilling to fight. Why should be continue to fight in a civil war that the native people are unwilling to fight for themselves? It don't make sense. Time to cut our losses and get out.

They've known the Iraqis wouldn't fight since the 90s. ISIS is exactly what the powers that be 'need'. America needs her boogeyman to keep the tax dollars flowing to the right pockets.

And it serves our neocon foreign policy needs as well.

Iraq's sectarian nature makes this extremely challenging. the Shias and Kurds will fight to defend their turf but the Sunnis really aren't that fired up to fight ISIS on behalf of a Shia government that discriminates against them and is in cahoots with Iran.

Gee wonder if the people that said we shouldn't take out Saddam were right?

If we're going to send weapons to anybody in Iraq it should the be the Kurds. Those folks will fight tooth and nail and we won't send them weapons because the "leadership" in Iraq doesn't want us too. I'd have to tell them to shove it where the sun don't shine and give the real fighters something to work with. I reckon Joe Biden was right long ago when he said we should divide Iraq into 3 separate countries.

That last line will get you in trouble around these parts!

The middle eastern borders were drawn terribly. It's a problem that drives a fair amount of the conflict.
